OK. I think I've got it. I had to disconnect the PDA. Then re-start set-up and get to the point where it it says Pocket PC not attached. Then attach it. Then it works

Copy the France map to your SD card or PocketPC, using the TomTom CDs. Load TomTom, go to Preferences, and Switch Map. Easy.

did you remove the old maps?

Yes - I removed all references to TT2 before the load
