|

You guys very kindly helped me to solve a POI problem yesterday which turned out to be a simple enable/disable button.
However when I started using my TomTom 530 today it keeps going to sleep after about 5 mins whether in navigation mode or not.
I tried a soft reset and also the factory reset but no luck - still nods off 5 mins after opening.
During the soft reset a black screen with tiny tech spec writing appeared and I notice that one of the parameters said
power on mode - sleep
if this is relevant ?
I have been using it on direct plug in power - the battery only holds a charge for about 1 min as the unit is several years old and I have never replaced the battery - could this be a factor ?
Battery saving preferences shows 2 options :
. never dim screen
. dim screen between instructions
and I have tried it both ways but doesnt stop it sleeping.
also shows 'switch off when external power lost' and again I have tried it with this enabled/disabled and makes no difference.
Any suggestions much appreciated.
Many thanks in advance of a solution !

If its not moving and there is no interaction with the screen then it will go to sleep after around 20 minutes this is how its intended to work - Mike |

Thanks for the quick reply - don't you guys ever sleep
Well I've never noticed it doing it before - but I guess theres a first time for everything - I'm away off to work in a minute so I'll try it again but for sure during the day today while navigating from A-B the bloody thing kept shutting down within 5 mins of being opened.....
Fingers crossed it'll behave tonight otherwise I'll be a very lost recovery driver
Cheers for now.

If it's doing it while you're driving and it's navigating, then that's a problem rather than a feature!
Could be the battery on it's last legs I suppose - pulling down the voltage rails.
Are you sure the cigarette lighter adapter was getting power from the socket reliably?
Oh, by the way.. the "Power on mode=sleep" line is bit of a red herring. IIRC it is just telling you how it last shut down.
So if you turn it off using the power button, it will say "Power on mode=Power down" - which sounds worrying, but isn't! |

You could always try running clearflash as that often cleans "bugs" like that out.
I had a 540 that did that for no obvious reason/wrong settings etc and it worked for me. |
