Hi, hope you can help with a problem I have had today. I have downloaded xxxx update today and extracted the files. When trying to copy & paste these onto the Tom Tom it states that eg "pocketgps_uk_specs_tba is too large". This seems to have happened to all of the files. When I have cancelled this operation I get the message "Error reading: J:\tthome.bif"
The Tom Tom then seems to have crashed and the PC cannot see the 750 or the SD card although TTHome says it is still connected to the PC.
Could this be a browser problem - I used Firefox?

It can't be a browser (Firefox) problem because all that gets used for is downloading the zip archive, and you say you've managed that OK.
You also say you've unzipped the individual files OK. Normally Winzip or the built-in Windows un-zipper would report any problems with file sizes etc.
So it looks like something has happened when you did the copy and paste to the TomTom itself in Windows Explorer.
Is "J" your TomTom drive?
I can't see a 'tthome.bif' on any of my machines, but I have got a 'ttgo.bif' - that's a rather important-looking file with all the details of what is on your device, but I think it only logs them.
If I rename it on my 950, the machine still boots up fine and actually recreates a new one with all the info still in it.
so it might be worth moving that file off the TomTom to somewhere safe and re-booting the TT. |

Hi Andy,
Many thanks for your response. I have just tried to copy & paste again onto the SD card and it has worked fine. My SD card is Drive K so I can only imagine that previously the mouse cursor "slipped" onto the J Drive (which is my full internal memory) whilst pasting. Your response jogged my thoughts for me so thanks again.
The TT is not the most responsive of devices is it? It does crash a lot - whether that is due to its own OS or Windows I don't know.
Cheers jack. |

Glad you got it working.
There does seem to be an ongoing "crash" issue with the x50 models that hasn't been sorted yet. |
