Its the same thing, its only there for those that haven't got a free subscription.
Not sure if there are any of those now or not, don't think you can get traffic without a subscription any more. |

I don't think it is the same thing. I understand that the basic service uses transmissions alongside radio programmes (an up market RDS?). It uses people like the highway agency to update it. The premium service uses the data from trafficmaster (in the UK). I upgraded and noticed a vast improvement in terms of response to traffic. It still doesn't beat my old AA Vodafone thing but that uses the transmissions from the trafficmaster sensors themselves and is instant. |

I just bought a GTM 25 premium. The difference appears to be that the lifetime licence is Pan European, where the standard device is Britain only.
I have to admit that I was somewhat concerned on opening the box to find that the wire antenna that everbody talks about was not included, all you get is a replacement car power adaptor with the receiver near the Sat Nav end of the cable. I connected it up and was receiving traffic information within 30 secs. This was in Telford and the signal remained on my trip home to Shrewsbury, so far this appears to be a great device.
