If I work out a route on mapsource on my PC and download it to my nuvi 770 although the distance is the same and route looks the same...the journey on Nuvi is an Hour longer........What am I doing wrong? and which is the correct estimate? |

Within Mapsouce there are options for driving speeds.
Preferences-Routing-Driving Speeds.
Does your unit have the same options.? _________________ Garmin Oregon 300 + Garmin iQue 3600

Thanks!
while I can see the options in Mapsource I have never adjusted anything.....
maybe it adds the hour because of traffic then, seeing as I am going via Paris maybe just as well |

It has nothing to do with traffic!
Perhaps the unit takes into account the 1 hour difference between UK and France.
The most likely reason - there is an option that does not match either on Mapsource or the unit.
Having travelled thousands of miles on the continent towing the caravan I have never seen your problem.
Give us a start and finish to compare on our units.
Try this one on Mapsource 163 miles - 3hrs - 4mins
N51.26508 E0.61523 to N49.88882 E2.29614
This is with my settings - if yours is different then the Options are different.
Neither of us is wrong only the options are different.
If two Mapsource routes are different then it is possible the options on the unit are not as comprehensive as MapSource. _________________ Garmin Oregon 300 + Garmin iQue 3600

Ah! time difference is probably it........
Calais to Blois (Loire)
mapsource ( v 6.13.7) 292 miles 4.38 hrs
nuvi 292 miles 5,25 hrs
I have not bothered upgrading maps (NT Europe 2008) on either pc or nuvi. may do this next year or buy a new unit and sign up for lifetime maps then. I have had garmin since 2000 and have never upgraded maps annually....I just dont see the point. as I use it primarily for long motorway (notorhome) journeys and routes and addresses dot really change do they......
and just upgrading to V 6.15.6
Blimey! That looks a lot different on my PC Much clearer and less cluttered..
...do I have to upgrade on the nuvi as well currently 4.70?

295 miles - 5hrs-08mins on MapSource settings as car but 5hrs - 32min as truck [my choice as a caravanner]
You always get a more reliable route on 'truck' settings and the timing is more reliable, but my Oregon does not have that setting - my Garmin iQue does. _________________ Garmin Oregon 300 + Garmin iQue 3600

Mapsource is on the PC not on the unit.
Never use the updated Mapsource as it elongates the maps East to West.
I have it on the PC but use 6.13.7 _________________ Garmin Oregon 300 + Garmin iQue 3600

That is odd! the map of Europe looks fatter and wider....How strange
but def easier on the eye when you scroll in, I thought for a while it had not drawn roads........ |

Having travelled that route and beyond more times than I care to remember. The 5+ hour estimate is more accurate that that nuvi one. Even doing that route at maximum permitted speeds (car) and no toilet stops it will still take at least 5 hours, that is assuming you do not have any trouble getting past Paris. Problems in and around Paris have been known to add 2-4 hours to the journey even when trying to avoid them. |
