Hi
I have been having trouble with voices and sound on my Go 730T and the recent updates haven't helped at all so I thought I would reformat the machine, restore to the original version as purchased (June 2008) and then upgrade the Operating System from scratch in the hope that it might sort out the problems. However, I want to keep the newer map downloaded in July 2008 and also the settings, routes, favourites, POIs, voices, colour schemes etc as per today.
This is my current setup
App 8.302 (9738/040301) OS:1000
64Mb RAM (free: 64Mb)
GPS v1.20, Boot 1.0012
Map: ‘Western_and_Central_Europe_2GB’ v805.1801
I'm not sure what it was originally in June 08 and I don't know which files to examine to find out - if I need to know.
I've got a backup from June 08 and I've done a backup today ready for the restore but I'm not sure which folders and files to restore and which I need to keep from my current setup. Once I've done that, I will consider whether to upgrade to the latest maps but I want everything working properly first!
Is there a thread to help me work out which are the essential bits to keep and which to update, and how? I have searched but can't find one.

I suggest you download and install Navcore 8,010 as this will fix the issues and work with your v805 map, there is no point in running the 8,3xx Navcore unless you have v825 maps installed, if you need a link to the download and some instructions for installing it without using Home just ask and someone will link to the thread (IIRC it's a six page thread about issues with the FM Tx where I posted it) adding links from this phone isn't possible! - Mike

Thanks Mike and David I will go back to that version for the moment. However, I have tried various applications and got rid of all except Tyre but there are some files and folders remaining which I want to get rid of so I am looking for a rule of thumb as to which folders (and files) are required for the application, which I need to keep from my current configuration and which are therefore superfluous and can be deleted. Is there a guide anywhere?
When I upgrade my maps should I upgrade to Navcore 8.3xx to take advantage of the recent improvements or will I still have sound problems? BTW, I've seen people describing their sound problems as stuttering. Mine loses large chunks of words so that a long road name like St Catherine's Drive would become something like St Cather..ive. Is that what people mean by stuttering?

To use the newer v825 map on your device you will need the Navcore 8,3xx on the device, what method are using for the sound output from the TomTom when you experience the sound problem - Mike

There have been no new posts for some time about stuttering, so I would guess that version 8.3 has cured it.
As long as you always ue your car charger because low battery seems to be causing sound problems for those who try to run on internal battery. _________________ TT Go Essential
Mike, I have tried computer and non computer voices. At first, just the computer voices on road names were affected but now it seems to affect everything. I have to turn off road names or it is virtually unintelligable. It has been like this for some time but, as I usually use it without sound on long journeys, I haven't bothered to get to grips with the cure. Now, I am using it more in town where I find the voices more useful so I want to get it back to full operation. BTW, if I want to reformat it, I presume that I can do it from a PC as normal? (sorry, I'm not very good at these things)
Calomax, I am using the same version as you, 8.302 but older maps and always have it connected to a car lead so I guess it is either the 8.302 with older maps or something buried in the configuration of my machine.
