I've just downloaded the latest European maps under the NuMap guarantee - I had to send in a receipt as the "ifix" calculation wasn't showing on Garmin's database but an e-mail scanned copy of the receipt enabled them to reset the system.
Garmin also ask you to update to the latest software but there is a trick around this by editing one of the .XML files to "trick" webupdater.
Download takes around 3 hours and you will get an .exe. file called Garmin_rmu_cneut2009_1.exe which is 3.151 Gb
When you install the map info shows the maps are version 2009.11 (not sure why 11 unless this reflects the issue that the American maps had)
Files are (old) and new size
gmap3dimg.img (260.660) 284,336
gmapprom.img (1,604,160) 1,630,976
gmapbmap.img 92,708 unchanged
gmaptz.img (578) 582
Does anyone know what the 4 files do? (3dimg and prom.img seem obvious but I'm not sure what the other two files do) _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.70

it could be something like 2009 - quarter 1 - version 1? maybe if they find an error it would be re-released as 2009.12 ?

i would guess at:
3dimg - 3d building images for the units that support them
prom - the actual map data
bmap - the 'bitmap' outline of the countries / terrain detail when you zoom right out
tz - probably some kind of device code or securty file?
tz is something related to time zones. i read somewhere about it.
btw. i see that numap guarantee doesn't work weel for most guys. i purchased my garmin about 5-6 weeks ago. their website doesn't show me any availavle free updates so i sent them and email via their support online form. they should contact me within 3 working days, which i think was last friday, so will call them up to find out that.

Could be the 11th build of the maps they made before they went live. TomToms latest map is 815 and a new one is due soon. I'm sure it won't be numbered 816....
I believe that the "Bmap" actually stands for Basemap rather than Bitmap as this is unchanged after downloading CNEUR 2009.11
Out of interest does anyone know what happens if you buy a Nuvi, download the latest update say 2009.11 and then within the 60 days, Garmin release a second major update (presumably 2009.2?) - will you be able to download too or is it a once only "all or nothing" download under the NuMaps guarantee? _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.70

No, the update is limited to one per unit within 60 days of nuMaps guarantee. It says that on Garmin website.
I saw that on the website too but when I go to the MyGarmin website it still tells me that I have XX days in which to download the latest maps - despite having downloaded the quarter 1 update !!! hence, I wondered if you could download quarter 2 if you had already downloaded quarter 1 a day or so previously (alas my 60 days will have expired by then)! _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.70

Navteq / Garmin seem to have improved the new European maps as the Junction number is now clearly displayed on junction views added since the original 2009 maps.
