Can anyone tell/help me what is the GPS Coordinates datum (long/lat) in Tom-Tom 2 and the Ipaq?
At a location (in my garden) I get two different read outs. I have a Garmin yellow Etrex and the Ipaq 3870.
I know that the etrex datum is WGS 84 hddd`mm.mmm
The readings are.
Etrex
N51`36.385
W000`00.644
Ipaq
N051`36.24
W000`00.39
As can be seen there is a difference, and I am confused. If I try to enter a co-ord from the etrex to the ipaq, I am shown an incorrect location.

if you go to multimapm.com and put in your postcode, you will be given the longditude and latitude of the postcode position..

it may match one or the other or neither

Flypopa,

TTNav uses Datum WGS 84, so if your Etrex is also set to WGS 84 then you should get the same reading regardless of how your Longitude and Latitude is displayed.

I don’t know the Etrex (I have an old but capable Garmin 12XL). Does the Etrex have a “shift” capability that shifts your position even though you’re using WGS 84?

When you’re driving and using your set-up, is your position on the TTNav map true to your actual position?

Regards,

Thanks for your replys so far. First, I know where I live, so if I go from the front to the back of my home the co-ord will change.

There is no shift on the etrex, although there are different datums that can be changed, but I have tried a few different ones to see if I can get a match.

Using the ipaq with TT2 mobile is fine, and stays on route.

If you look at my first question above you will note that the last numbers are different. 2 on the ipaq, and 3 on the etrex. Why, is the question?

Flypopa,

The answer is that I don’t know. Confused

I don’t suppose that if you set the display of both the eTrex and the iPAQ (GPS Driver) to display Longitude and Latitude to degrees and decimal degrees (ddd.dddddd) that it makes any difference?

Can I confirm that you are using the eTrex as your GPS receiver for TTNav? If you’re not, can you position the two GPS Receivers next to each other and then take the readings?

I shall try the same with my Garmin 12XL next to my GPS receiver connected to the iPAQ and see what I get.

Regards,

Robert.
No. The ipaq datum cannot be changed. Only the etrex is the one that I can change.
Again no. I use the ipaq with a Navman 3000 jacket, 128meg CF, TT2 all of UK installed in the CF card for road nav.
As stated earlier I have had both side to side and working. As I walk about they change but the end numbers differ.
I use the etrex for Geocaching and trekking/cycling

For all that wish to know, I have found the answer.
The Ipaq Datum is.. HDDD'MM'SS
The Etrex " .. HDDD'MM.MMM

When I changed the datun in the Etrex it put me 25metres north of the original location.
This I can live with.
