|
|
I've just had TomTom home do an update (to navcore_8.010.9369.gox30.cab judging by the folder on the PC) to my wife's 730T. After the update installed, I get a message box on the PC saying
Restart your device..
A new app has been installed and you need to restart your device
1. Disc TomTom from PC
2. Re-conn TomTom to PC
3. You may be adsked to connect to PC - say "yes"
When I disconnect the TomTom, it then shows a screen representing I guess, the TomTom disconnected with a big red cross. When I reconnect, I get the first messagebox again so I'm stuck in a loop.
How do I get out of this mess? Is there anything I can force through manually to get it going again?
Ta,
Doug |

Do you have a previous back-up of your TT? If so, try connecting it to the PC without Home running, and see if the back-up can be reinstalled. |

Unfortunately, being an idiot, I haven't got a backup. Is there any othr way round it, short of restoring to a known base? If not, might have to go back to the shop (it's brand new) |

You can connect the device to the PC and use Windows Explorer to view the contents of the device, simply copy everything from the device to the PC, then delete the loose files located in the root directory of the device, these are the files that are not stored in any folders.
DO NOT DELETE ANY FOLDERS OR THEIR CONTENTS
Now start up TomTom Home and let it update the device, this will replace the files needed to get it working. Once it has stopped make sure you disconnect from Home by clicking Device/ Disconnect Device within the Home application BEFORE you pull the lead out of the device, an early disconnection from the PC can lead to the exact problem you have got - Mike |

Have you tried resetting the device? although if this doesn't fix the issue I would be tempted to take it back to the shop if its less than 4 weeks old or give TomTom a ring in the morning 0845 161 0009 - Mike |

Thanks Mike - you're a hero! That fixed the problem.
I've learnt my lesson now regarding backups!

Yep, tried that several times Mike. It screwed up after I spoke to Tomtom on Friday because I had intermittent voices or distorted voices. Done as they told me in their email about manually installing voices and now this, so they can have it back.
Thanks anyway. |

Great news, now that you have got it working it is time to make another backup, unless of course you have already done so
I would also recommend that you burn a copy of the backup to removable media such as a CD or DVD depending upon file size, computer hard drives don't fail too often but it is better to have that covered just in case - Mike |
