With their Garmin 310 (vers. 3.9) & maps (vers. 9)
when programming the unit to head somehwere it seems to now send me a different route to previous updates, sometimes being 10 miles longer to get to M11 or ask me to turn right and follow a narrow lane then back onto the main road when it would be quicker to not!!....(narrow lane is now no entry but thats not Garmins fault)
anyone else experienced similar crazy routes?? or have any ideas?? |

Garmin treat unclassified roads as 60mph capable (but they have obviously not tried driving down ones where I live!). This can lead to very strange routes being generated. It's also possible that Garmin have 'tweaked' their routing algorithms. My wife's 310 has been on 3.90 almost from day 1 - so I can't comment on it's routing prior to this. _________________ Phil |

Make sure that Navigation Avoidances is still Enabled and that Unpaved roads is still selected, it is possible that during the "upgrade" this setting has reverted back to unselected so the device offers stupid routes - Mike |

My Nuvi 660 has the same problems, despite the Navigation Avoidances being set, on a daily route from work (honest, only tried it once, i don't set it daily) it will send me on a 1.7 mile route rather than a 0.9 miles shortcut and if i do go on the 0.9 option it will direct me off this road for 2 miles, to return back on via a turning at the end of the 0.9 run.
The 1.7 mile route is carriageway, the 0.9 mile route is a good quality wide two lane road with some paved roads and the 2 mile route is very narrow country route with some paved roads.
Although you could argue that the 1.7 mile route is the "fastest" as it is a carriageway, it isn't as it goes up to a roundabout and the comes back on it's self in a "V" shape, the 0.9 mile run shortcut, closes off the end of the "V". _________________ TomTom Go 60
