|
|
Hi,
Downloaded the 24 file database, and managed (after much reading of the forums) to get them to load into my 'Custom' list. Looking at my PDA, there are blank gaps (white squares) where the cameras are. Clicking on them I get the type and speed limit of the camera. If I use the other downloaded file (10 file one) then I do see the icons, but the cameras effectively double up. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks Stace |

You haven't said what Sat nav system software you are using!
At a guess, it sounds like you haven't copied the 24 icon picture files too (probably .bmp format). |

Sorry, copied that info into my signature that wasn't posted as I'd forgot to tick the box. I've got a Mio168 and running CoPilot 6

Just looked in the unzipped file, and all the icons (bmps) are there. I transfered it all over, and that's why I don't understand why i've got white blank boxes where the camera sites are. Hovering over them shows the camera type and the speed limit at that location, it's just the icons that I'm missing.

Clutching at straws here...
It might be the "colour bit depth" of the icon files is set too high?
Have a look at THIS POST where it says they need to be 16-colour. I just tried downloading both the TomTom and the Co-pilot versions and they are 8 bit palleted (ie 256 colour).
Which SatNav System did you opt for in the first selection box when you downloaded the files?
Do you have a "Paint" program on you PC which will tell you the details about the icon files, and where you could try reducing the colour depth?
Anyone else with any proper experience of the Mio168? |

I downloaded the CoPilot6 , then I went for the "UK Speed Zoned (24 Files) option. I can see the icons in the unzipped file. In The Custom items on my Mio , the icons are there too, with the speed limit ontop of the different icons for gatso specs etc etc.
The icons are 22x22 pixels, and 8bit.
Thanks for your help so far.

Are you able to try converting one of them to 16 colour to see if that cures it? |

Hi Andy,
Not sure how to do that. I've imported the files onto my desktop CoPilot , and they show up fine on the map (when you zoom in.) I'm not sure but I thought I saw 3 square boxes where the icon should have been, but the're now missing, as I had 3 camer listings at each site. I'm sure that somethings got deleted. The icons show up in the 'Custom' menus though, weired.
I might have to try and delete all of the storage card, and reinstall the data on that (Don't know how to do that yet - but I'm going in circles. Thanks again.

If you right click on the .bmp file in Windows Explorer, and select "Properties" then look on the "Summary" tab, it will tell you the pixel size, dots per inch resolution and colour bit depth for that icon.
I'm sure that must be where your problem lies, but not having a Mio or Co-Pilot, I can't suggest what it should be! |

I think you should have a read of THIS Thread where the issue of white box being displayed was sorted, check the software version you are using before reading it - Mike |

Thanks for all the advice. Mike - I'll try to do the remaming thing first, as when I loaded the 6(ish) file version, the cameras magically appear but don't show up in the 24(ish) file downloads.
I'd still like to get the differnt camera types shown. Andy - If that doesn't work, I'll try to resize the images and bit sizes as you suggest. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks again.

OK. Renamed all the files 'safetycamera' etc (boring process). Now I have a 'Safety Alerts' box with a yellow speed camera in the settings dialogue box that I didn't have before. Still no sign of the icons on my pocket PC though BUT there are no blank boxes either. Tired now, I'll do more tomorrow. Thanks Stace _________________ Mio 168

Now you have got that far take it for a drive past a few speed cameras and see what happens - do you get any camera warnings or icons appearing? - Mike |

Gosh Mike. This is driving me silly. I've installed and deleted so many times I'm getting RSI
OK, this is how it is so far and the results.
7 files, named Pocketgps etc - Get the icons on pocket PC displayed (but the Safety Alert Yellow Icon in the menu is missing.
7 files, named Safetycamera etc - Get the yellow menu Icon for safety alerts, Nothing displayed on pocket pc, but they are all shown in the Custom POIs.
53 files, named Pocketgps etc - No icons on pocket pc, but they are all shown in the Custom POIs. Again, no yellow safety alert icon in the menu.
53 files, named Safetycamera etc - Get the yellow menu Icon for safety alerts, Nothing displayed on pocket pc, but they are all shown in the Custom POIs.
I think that's al correct. Bloomin nutty I know. Grrrrr
Final thoughts? I think I'll settle for just the types of camera displayed.
Thanks again for your help.
