hi am new to gps have been reading pockets gps and think for gps on motorbike my best bet for my ipaq 3970 would be cf gps card with adaptor into my pc card expansion sleeve and increase my memory with sd card, the question is would it slow cf card to go thru the pc card sleeve, read the review on sysonchip cf card and want it but only if it will work this way _________________ Asus Zenfone 2 twin sim, Garmin Zumo 550, 660 and pocketgps speed camera database

Tom,
I am not too sure about the speed issues, but as it would only be transmitting small amounts of data speed shouldnt be an issue anyway.
I would be more concerned about the number of connections you would have all being subject to vibration. I am not sure if a motorbike suffers from more or less vibration than a car, but this might be an area to look into. Any other bikers out there able to share experiences?
The other thing is that a CF expansion jacket is not all that expensive, so you could just buy one of those as well as the SysOnChip. Expansys are selling them for £35. _________________ Mike Barrett |

thanks for that yes a bike does vibrate more than a car thats why I want to use an expansion jacket for cf rather than a seperate gps cutting down on connections as much as possible and of course when you stop you have to be able to take it with you so was thinking of putting it in a tank bag ,the reveiws on the sysonchip seems to suggest that it would still work then _________________ Asus Zenfone 2 twin sim, Garmin Zumo 550, 660 and pocketgps speed camera database

There's no speed issues at all. In essence (this is a bit of a gloss) the CompactFlash interface is a subset of the PC Card interface - which is why an adapter is so cheap.
My GPS is a Haicom HI-303MMF in CompactFlash mode sat in a Pretec PC Card / CompactFlash convertor. That goes into my PC Card Expansion Pack Plus on my iPAQ 3970. It works fine.
