Hi Guys!
My European Maps arrived this morning and I am leaving for Spain in 5 hours. I'm currently trying to load the 215MB France map onto my empty 256MB CF Card on my HP Jornada 568.
Everytime the map has loaded 66.68MB onto the storage card it hangs for a few minutes then aborts and ends Active Sync!
The thing is I have been using the full UK maps off the card for the past 4 weeks without any problem.
Please help me - I need my route within the next 5 hours! _________________ <b>Cepheus1</b><img border="0" src= "http://www.anchoredbygrace.com/smileys/a_smil09.gif"><br>

cepheus,
You MAy have CF card problem!
As your time is short try thye following:-
1) load a relevant section of France on your 256MB card and see if it works.
If this works load by section, not perfect but at least you have a map.
OR
2) If you have another spare card, try loading a smaller segment!
What is the make of card?? some of the team may have good/ bad experience of this type.
As time is essentail we will keep tabs! _________________ PeterB, Kent, U.K. |

Well, as I said, I'm using the same CF card that my UK maps have been on for the past 4 weeks. I'm going to give your suggestions a try now! _________________ <b>Cepheus1</b><img border="0" src= "http://www.anchoredbygrace.com/smileys/a_smil09.gif"><br>

On my 3rd attempt at the full maps it aborted at 66.71MB
My CF card is a PRETEC.
I am just about to try your segment suggestion! _________________ <b>Cepheus1</b><img border="0" src= "http://www.anchoredbygrace.com/smileys/a_smil09.gif"><br>

Cepheus,
?? PRETEC
I have France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria on a 512mb SanDisk,
Plus Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg on 128mb integral
No problems.
My logic is that if your system cuts out at 66mb can you actually load 64mb chunks and get by!!!!!
Not ideal but at least you can cover your route!
Interested in the result of your test. _________________ PeterB, Kent, U.K. |

Just attempted a 60MB segment onto a 64MB Sandisk - hung, then aborted and cancelled active sync at 32.62MB!
Please someone point me in the right direction! _________________ <b>Cepheus1</b><img border="0" src= "http://www.anchoredbygrace.com/smileys/a_smil09.gif"><br>

Cepheus,
Sorry I'm lost too!
Have you been able to transfer ANY TTN2 European maps to a CF.
Once transferred you have to register European maps on line, in addition to the TTN2 UK registration.
The required code is attached as a label fixed to the back of your European map box!!!!!!!!!
Could this be an explanation? _________________ PeterB, Kent, U.K. |

I've input the code on the inside of the box, but as it has never managed to transfer the map I have never got to the registration stage! _________________ <b>Cepheus1</b><img border="0" src= "http://www.anchoredbygrace.com/smileys/a_smil09.gif"><br>

I've heard various reports of ActiveSync barfing when transferring very large files to storage cards. Maybe, in your setup, it detonates shortly after transferring 64MB of one file. No individual file in the full UK map is bigger than 64MB.
The usual answer is to use a card reader to do the transfer - which will be a great deal faster than ActiveSync. However, that's not much news when a very quick fix is needed...
If you haven't already upgraded, you could try upgrading to ActiveSync 3.7 to see if that helps any. Be aware, though, that this may cause problems that you didn't foresee (don't blame if it does!). It's just that you wanted a quick fix, and this is the only thing I can think of suggesting as you seemingly haven't got a card reader to hand.
One thing that is known is that sometimes the ActiveSync 3.7 installer hangs at 91% - even for several minutes. Just leave it - it will complete eventually.

EUREKA!!!!
Well go figure! I hooked up to my lap top and everything worked just fine
I've now got all of France on my CF card and I'll load Spain when I get to the border from my Laptop.
Obviously some glitch with my Desktop which I'm not going to worry about now - I'm off to the sun
Thanks to everyone that pitched in with suggestions - you're all stars

Sounds like it was a USB issue.
For me - laptop OK (USB Cable), then in docking station (USB Cradle) - no good.
Then change to a different docking station (different type - same manufacturer - Compaq) - OK
Others have seen similar issues with different computers (Dell desktops being one)

Sometimes you can resolve the USB issues where ActiveSync just suddenly terminates and drops the ActiveSync connection you have by moving your USB cradle off of a USB hub to a direct USB port on the back of the PC. Sometimes unplugging other USB devices also help. |
