Set a walking route today but unfortunatly it got it wrong, it seems that Tomtom Nav 5 does not take into account streets that are blocked off to vehicles (i.e. a road that used to exit onto another but blocked with bollards and/or pavement) but still allows pedestrians. As it was just a test in an area I know it did not matter but again strangers attempting the same would have been faced with a 400 yard unnecessary walk.
Apart from the menus & speed camera warnings (which have been solved with much appreciated help from this forum) I am well happy with the upgrade to TTN5. It has solved many issues I had with TTN3. I, for one will not be downgrading to TTN3.
Am I the only one to be really happy with TTN5 (took a bit to get round to a new way of thinking when doing certain tasks)?

It's the same with TT GO. It only knows about roads along which cars can travel. So if you ask it for a walking route from A to B, it will give you a car route - the only concession being that it will let you go the wrong way round a roundabout if that is shorter, or the wrong way down a one-way street.
If there is a footpath across a field which would halve the distance, forget about it - TTG only knows about roads.
It is, after all, a satnav system for use primarily in a vehicle - so I can understand why walking routes are as they are - but it's still a bit disappointing! _________________ Roger

If there is a footpath which is mapped (some are) then it won't route you on there unless you are actually on the footpath, then and only then will it take it into account. This seems like a bug (or lack of feature) to me. |
