If you followed the instructions 'verbatim' there should not be a problem.
Ensure you use NOTEPAD to edit out the top line of the .csv file and not Excel. _________________ Ian.

It still does not work. i am using wordpad to edit the file. Just before clicking the "transfer to device" button / menu item i compared the image of my POI Editor to the one supplied with the instructions - it loos exactly the same.
After selecting "save to device" the POI editor then chuggs along or a while before spitting out "No POIs in Input File". it does this every time.
Anyone else encounter this?

Once Tim has viewed your file he will be able to shed light on where things are going wrong.
Life would be so much better if Navman-ready files were made available in the zip file download . _________________ Ian.

Wordpad IS NOT NOTEPAD!
Wordpad can sometimes corrupt the file and save in a different format, hence why the instructions do stipulate using notepad.
This may or may not be causing your problem, but hopefully Tim should be able to confirm shortly. |

You are right but since Notepad is one of the most poular targets for trojans and hackers i don't have it on my system.
A text format file is a text format file - so I am not sure that using Wordpad is causing a problem. I have heard from others with exactly the same issue on the ICN 510 so i beleive this is a problem with the unit.
It is moot for the time being as my cat knocked the 510 off my desk while it was plugged into the USB port and it ripped the femail receptical from the soldered foundation. I am beginning to think the 510 is crap, but there you go. Now i have to find my soldering iron....

Actually the most targetted operating system is Windows so are you going to remove that also ? WordPad has more vulnerabilities than what Notepad has, so I would be even more warey of using Wordpad. Providing you are protecting your computer properly then there should be no reason why you can't use notepad, or another plain text editor.

Well I can categorically tell you it's not an issue with the 510 because I have one here running the latest database version of our cameras and it works extremely well. |

Maybe just a few 510's then? because the instructions are moronically simple I am sure it is not operator error. I can categorically say that the error occurs every time that I try and load the POI file - or any of the POI files. And as I have said - others have had the same error. There seems to be a workaround by transferring the POI files directly to the unit using the 510 directory access in "My Computer" - I will try that... once I have found that damn low-voltage soldering iron...
Thanks for all your help. Please don't respond by insiting that nothing is wrong though. If you do have any information on this error i would be greatful for your help.
Ghaz.
Notepad was removed autoatically by my security software. That's all I know. |

Correct, others have had a problem, but all of the problems people have experienced so far is because they're either not using NOTEPAD or a virgin text editor or they aren't removing the header line out of the file. Once done, this usually resolves the problem. |

Ghaz,
I have just re-loaded the GATSO, SPECS and MOBILE to the iCN510 I have here and they've all gone on without fail following the instructions page. That's using NOTEPAD and editing out the first line and re-saving the CSV file as pure text/ascii then opening up the desktop software, opening POI Editor and importing and saving them to the iCN510.
What I would be careful of, if you're getting to the point where you are importing, the graphic will automatically default to the file you are importing CSV and this might be where you are seeing a problem. |

Guys,
Thank you so much for your help!
I have just sucessfully re-soldered the surfacemount USB connector onto the PCB of the 510.
If any of you have cats that are likley to knock the 510 off the desk while it is plugged in to the USB cable (as i do) - then you should know that (on my unit at least) the soldering for the USB connector is seriouslly sub-standard. The connector ripped off the PCB with almost no effort. and on inspection the 4-primary solder points were very poorly soldered - Those Chinese sweat-shops just don't seem to care anymore....
The 5 solder points for the data connection are fiddly - so if anyone experiences a similar problem I have pictures and can send instructions for self repair of the 510 SM USB on the PCB.
Ok - now that I can talk to the 510 again I have taken your advice and ditched wordpad for a proper programmers text editor and the file now transfers without any problem. Cheers and thanks and beers all round!
