|
|
I bought 2 weeks ago a BC-307. It worked good.
Yesterday I tried to use after one week that it was stored in the car, but it doesn't work.
With the own software, GPSINFO, it doesn't comunicate.
The only difference that I found is that the red led now is very dimly than before.....
Before I remember it was light RED, but now the led is low RED... like if it doesn't receive enough power.
I tried on Toshiba e740 and also on a notebook. The result is the same.... :x
Thanks to all

Ref: http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/globalsat-bc307.php
I have a Toshiba e740 Pocket PC and bought a BC307 Compact Flash GPS for it
It worked fine for a few weeks but then during a journey it stopped working.
I got a replacement and that worked but whilst picking up my Pocket PC I switched it off accidentally by the power button whilst Tom Tom was running and the GPS was being accessed now the 2nd GPS doesn't work as well. The 2nd unit failed within 2 days of having it.
All that happens is the red light comes on dimly not bright Red.
It seems the switch off action maybe the cause and may have been what happened the first time as well
Anyway I opened my BC307 up because there was something moving around inside and I found a tiny piece of either solder or tiny metal link
I noticed a row of resistors but one was not there wondering if that or normal or not?
Does anyone have any suggestions?

If these are in warranty then I would get them replaced. I have heard a handful of reports of failed BC-308s all with similar problems. To date everyone was bought from either eBay or an overseas seller, were yours bought in this way?
I ask because it is possible that this source is re-selling warranty return units or similar? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Yeah mine was from an Oversea's seller on eBay. ... I went to my friend's house and he has a Haicom with a transparent cover and so I could see it's exactly the same on the inside as the one I have, only thin I couldn't see was if there was a snapped off / loose wire like in my photo.
It seems pretty obvious that people are experiencing the DIM Red LED problem with GlobalSat, but not seen anythign so far on Haicom having this problem even though they are using hte same iternal components.
Although my frien'ds one seemed a bit more polished looking and came with a case.
As far as I am aware these are brand new items and if they are reburbished then it should be stated on eBay. |

I quite agree but I have not had any issues with mine and to date I'm not aware of anyone who has purchased through a dealer suffering issues.
eBay is a great marketplace but you balance risk against the savings you make. I always advise that you should consider the implications of warranty and technical support when looking at eBay, if you are happy you won't need it or it's cost is low then fine, otherwise it may be better in the long term to source through a dealer. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I managed to fix mine today using CE Monitor and doing a Factory Reset then used it only in NMEA mode, turns out Sirf Modes were causing the problems. |

Hi there - I finally persuaded the wife to let me buy a GPS card on ebay (a Globalsat BC-307 rebadged to Dconnex). Received it yesterday & played with it for about 1 hour.
Tried to switch it on this morning but I now have exactly the same problem as described above.
I've tried using the factory reset option in CE Monitor as mentioned without joy.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? - I don't really want to return it to Singapore unless I have to (I had to wait long enough for delivery as it was!)

I just noticed this morning (playing in SiRF mode) that the light on the side is dimly lit when in SiRF and no postitional fix.... it glows brightly again when it's in NMEA mode though.
I used GPSTweak 0.9p to switch between modes. |

I recieved my DConnex BC 307 off Ebay after a month wait.
Ive been totally unable to get the GPS recognised bby either a Fujitsu Amilo (Win XP) or by my Toshiba Libretto (Win95).
The red LED glows bright red on the Libretto, but doesnt light at all on the Amilo.
Ive been messing with the mini CD rom supplied & with dowloads from Globalsat, to no avail.
This is the last consumer electronics I buy from abroad

I purchased a BC - 307 from eBay and have had no trouble at all with the actual functioning. I did note though that when I first used the GPS with my h5550 and Tomtom 3 the power light on the GPS only came on when I started navigator.
Now after performing a soft re - set of my unit the GPS is showing power and tracking satelites as soon as I turn on the IPAQ, regardless of whether or not I am running tomtom?
Asside from this all still works just great and in general I am very pleased with this unit. I can pick up 3 satelites from inside my house when not sitting near a window & when installed in my car I get average of between 6 and 10 (usually 8 or 9).
This is far better than my previous Rikaline which struggled to find and fix on 4.
Strange about the power light though !! |
