Having BT lockups still on 2210 1.10/TTN3.03/BT & SD card I found I can run with no problems with a 16mb map in main memory.
I am now thinking maybe my SD card has been formatted in such a way to slow down access.
Can anyone with a similar but working combination tell me how their card is formatted please? eg FAT 16 or 32 cluster size etc.
Many Thanks |

Tried it on a spare known to work with TT SD Card. It formated OK but when I put it in the XDA II it insisted that the card was not formated and would I like to format it. _________________ Graham.

I must admit I am sceptical about the defragmentation of memory cards and am looking for a good explanation of why this is necessary. Many people assume that because memory cards appear as hard drives, they behave in a similar manner.
Hard drives need defragmenting as when reading a file if the head has to move to several different parts of the disk platter, this will substantially increase the time taken to read the file.
However on a memory card, data is addressed and it takes the same time to access data wherever it is on the memory card. A read of sequentially located data will take just as long as randomly located data.
The only difference I can see is where tiny files are accessed where more than one can fit in a single address word and two files could be accessed with a single instruction.
Can anyone convince me otherwise? |

I formatted my SD card as FAT32, and when I went to install the maps it said there was insufficient capacity, I only has 3MB available (it was a 256 card!! I reformed as just plain old FAt (I haven't got a clue what these terms mean by the way!!) and it worked fine.

I've been asked by TomTom support to reformat my card as FAT32 in an attemp to stop BT lockups on my 2210.
Will I be able to restore my files backup up from FAT16 to a FAT32 card? or does it mean another hard reset and restart from scratch again? |

Having had a working system with my XDA, on upgrading to a XDA II I was getting lockups on every trip.
Decided to do a hard reset and start again so copied the storage card to the PC.
Installed Storage Tools and formated the SD Card which was Fat 16 to
Fat 32
Sector size 512 Bytes
Cluster size 2kb
Re-installed TT3 including the full UK maps, I used my Card Reader to install the maps to the SD Card as it is a lot faster than Activesync, and CheckPOInt.
Copied the saved POI OV2 and BMP files to the SD card and the .WAV files for CheckPOInt to Program files/Navigator.
Setup TT's properties then setup CheckPOInt.
So far on 4 100+ trips. NO LOCKUPS _________________ Graham.

MrT - seeking on flash memory takes a finite amount of time, so there is a performance hit if files on a flash memory card are fragmented.

Formatted my Expansys SD card to FAT32 in hope it would cure BT drops. Sadly, although it has improvewd things slightly, I still get BT drops for no reason. So it's back to no POI for me
The good news is that CheckPOInt still works with POI hidden and if you wnat to navigate to one just opt to navigate to a POI and pick it from the list _________________ Rgds,
