Hi
I have an O2 Xda and would like to be able to use a GPS when flying a Helicopter and also whilst driving my car. P lease can you recommend the best set up and possible manufacturer for a GPS Receiver.

Unfortunately Adrian you will be very limited to what you can use because you only have one storage slot, and that will be needed for maps, so a mobile or Bluetooth solution will be out.
Take a look at this page
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/gpshardware.php
If you look at the second table you'll see what sort of GPS Receivers are available. All are of the mice kind which plug into the accessory socket in-car, and might be a problem in aeroplanes if you don't have one of these sockets.
Peter has created a DIY battery pack which allows you to plug one of these receivers into a battery pack whilst flying. You can see it here http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/batterypack1.php
Check out our Car Powered section in our GPS Hardware Reviews available at
The main GPS Receivers will be the Leadtek 9531, Leadtek 9532, RoyalTek Sapphire, and Holux GM-210. All receivers come in at around £100 without software/maps, add another £100+ for software/maps which will give you street navigation maps, and you'll need ot add more for aviation style maps.http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/menu_gpshardware1.php which will give you reviews of these products. |

Adrian,
Another solution would be to buy a traditional handheld gps such as the Garmin Geko 201 (reviewed here) and connect it to your PDA using a serial cable.
This gives you teh advantage of having the PDA and the GPS powered seperately. giving you more battery life for the PDA where there are no power outlets. _________________ Mike Barrett |

Thanks very much I think the best bet would be to go for the Garmin Geko 201 as this would have more use in other areas.
Regards
