Hi
I have a compact flash sysonchip ii and I would appreciate some comparisons with other people. I had a garmin ique prior to this unit and if I had it turned off for a couple of months then it might take 5 minutes to lock on but other wise 40-50 seconds was the norm.
My sys on regularly takes 30 minutes to lock on and whilst it is doing this it doens't have the azimuth data for the satellites. The garmin would have a pretty good guess from its cached almanac.
Once it has been running for 30 minutes it has performed extremely well holding a lock in thick tree lined roads. But again sometimes it can see 6 satellites in the clear and not lock on to any of them.
I'd appreciate some feed back as to whether anyone else has a similar experience.
Cheers

I have the exact same problem. I'm using an Ipaq HX2750 & TomTom 5 - bought it all together for GPS usage, so haven't tried any other combinations. Perhaps a dodgy batch? My serial number is 0503200406, is yours close?
I emailed Syson about a week ago, but they have not responded. My supplier has offered me a replacement, but I don't know whether it will be any better. |

My s/n is 0408206734 which would on first glance not appear to be close to yours. I'm going to chase up a replacement I think. I'll let you know how I get on.

Same problem here;
I have the following setup:
HX4700;
SysOnChip CF Plus II (Hot start and NMEA;
TomTom 5.1;
Everything works great, the only real complaint is that sometimes (quite often) TomTom takes a little longer (+ 2min) than the usual (40/50 secs) to lock onto the satellites, blue bar.
On the TomTom satellite screen, I can see sometimes 4 to 5 grey bars, meaning, I guess that the SysOnChip GPS receiver found 4/5 satellites but didn’t lock onto then.
Is there a way of speeding up the process, or is this due to TT or is the GPS manufacturers setup?
I use GPSDash also, and the speed that the applications starts working is at list 1 quarter of the time that takes TT to start working.
Any clues?
Br

I had a PDA with the SysOn Plus II with xtrac that worked flawless for over a year. Then my car got broken into and I had to buy all new equiptment.
I bought the newer version SysOn Memory Plus 512 about a year ago and have had nothing but problems. Poor to intermitten fixes at best. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 hours to pull a fix then drops connection after a few seconds maby if im lucky a few mins.
The 512mb memory has never worked. It shows as mounted drive on my PDA but when I try to save files to it I get a read disk error. My PDA constantly ask if I want to reformat the drive. SN:41020B1166.
I figured I just got a bad card. No updates to the syson site at least not in english. I was going to contact syson but would probably be futile.
I have since fixed the problem by switching over and buying a Haicom 305III CF and have been happy. IPAQ 5555 / tomtom5 |
