It appears that the full postcode search is not working, has anyone got it to work?
I input NN36EE but it does not move on and appears to be waiting for more info. I tried adding house number - NN63EE50 but again no joy.
This is what I wanted to work in Version 5 |

It depends which Postcode search you are using? More information would be helpful. _________________ Richard

I do not understand your question.
I used "Navigate to...." then "Postcode" |

My mistake. I saw your query before I realised that Ver 5 was out.
Like you I cannot use 7digit Postcode searching - in other words there has been no change in the Postcode setup!!'' _________________ Richard

Apparently, we have to wait for the TTG500 maps to be issued for the 7 digit Postcode. Bit of an anti-climax.'' _________________ Richard

It is my belief that the full post code will only work with the new map data.
For the postcode to work you need a ZIP directory and the UK or Dutch postcode files. I havent tried them with the earlier maps.
If you dont have these files then the address search reverts back to the normal address search. _________________ Mike Barrett |

But they said we would get the full UK postcode search on V5 and it worked on your beta version so why did they not do as they said they were going to? Pretty poor fundraising effort designed to annoy all their existing users? |

I would assume that this is because you need the new version of the maps and that Teleatlas make a charge for any issue of map data. _________________ Mike Barrett |

But it worked OK on the Beta versions with 314 maps so it will work if they let us have it. They did say they wre going to on V5 didnt they! There must be two V5s one for us and one on the new Gos. |

Who said it worked on beta software with 314 maps. I have been testing the new maps as well as the new software. My understanding from TomTom is that it is part of the new map release.
Now PURE SPECULATION having just been in touch with Ordnance Survey regarding postcodes (and knowing how they operate with other digital mapping products) I expect that there is a license fee involved. This would mean that TomTom would have to release it with the new maps for legal reasons. _________________ Mike Barrett |

OK, so working with the speculation then, and going with the fee thing being likely, why was there so much hype that it would be available in v5 without so much as a one liner saying “ Oh BTW, you cant actually have the postcode bit because we have to charge you”? Very misleading.
I don’t mind paying if needs be but the way this feature was announced was a pretty poor show and spoiled the whole thing for me as the PS is so useful. Terrible bit of marketing for what is essentially a great product. |

Yet again.
Downloaded v5 like an excited puppy, deleted the original postcode files as hey, I wont be needing them, will I?
Tap away- no friggin' full postcode facility.
Good customer service is to 'exceed customer expectation' ie under promise and over deliver.
Tomtom have yet again over promised and under delivered

HA, I like you sentiment but it’s a bit unfair to say that V5 is just a compass. The itinerary is useful, it does switch maps faster and start-up faster too. The tolls seem to work and the QWERTY is better and the splash screen is now 24 bit so you can put better photos on. It was free but then again most of these features exist because everyone moaned that all the other GPS’s already have most of them and it should have had them anyway from the start. The A2B works better and they have ditched the nav to sat position. The status bar is better and the planning fastest/shortest bit is useful.
So... unfair with the whoop dee doo comment IMHO.
Still, after all that back to the postcode thing, I still say that to “disable” the upgrade after they announced that it would do the only thing that would make a big difference, so that we would have to buy the maps now to benefit, after telling us that we would have it is unforgivable.
If the maps were so good that I could find my planned destination maybe I would not feel so strongly about it. Seems their marketing people are out to annoy us because we all would have upgraded the maps anyway at some point so they are not gaining extra revenue by doing this, just shooting themselves in the foot. |
