|
|
I'm going to the West Coast of the USA later this year and can either hire a sat nav with the car or buy TomTom maps here and take my own sat nav. I would prefer to buy the maps as it will probably be cheaper in the end and I can also plan before I go.
However, I have TTN3 GB installed on my hx4700's SD card and am loath to disturb that installation considering how long it has taken me to set it up with POIs etc.!
If I buy the USA set does it come with another (different?) copy of TTN or is it just the maps? If it comes with TTN, do I have to install using that version, or can I simply install the maps and have them work with my present setup? If I install just the maps will they 'disturb' my present installation or do they just add on?
Sorry if this is a little basic but I've not a lot of experience with TTN. |

Unfortunately the US version currently comes with either TTN2.24 (not sure if they still sell it) or version 2004 . The latter is compatible with your TTN3 maps, but has a limited feature set (see my review) _________________ Lutz

If I understand, then, the TTN3 map of GB will run on the USA TTN2004 if I was to install that. However, will the USA maps run on TTN3 if I keep that? |

Just thought... could I leave TTN3 on my SD card and install a separate TT USA on a CF card?
If so, could both cards be inserted at the same time or would I have to take one or the other out?
So many questions! |

yes, the dual card install would work.
apart from that - try it out yourself. Nothing to lose. _________________ Lutz

There is no need for all that malarkey.
You can buy a complete US set-up if you wish but, as you already have TT3 GB installed, then you only need to buy the latest US maps. They work together.
Is there a reason for having TT installed on your SD card? I find it easier to have the programme installed in my pda main memory and keep all my maps on SD cards and just pop in the appropriate card containing the map for wherever I happen to be. |

Is that the maps from the 2004(?) version or the 2.24 version? Or simply separate maps? If the latter, I didn't know you could buy them separately fom the application.

Just to keep as much memory free as possible for applications to run in.

How does the application recognise each different card? I imagined it would need to be linked to maps on 'a' card rather than maps on 'any' card. Is there a special way in which to install them?
So much to learn... |

2004 maps
If the app doesn't find the map it has used previously it initiates a new folder scan and finds all available maps. It then asks you to select (if you have multiple maps on the same card)
I definitely agree on installing the application to SD card - much safer in case of power loss, too. (Do your backups, peeps!) _________________ Lutz

Lutz, thanks for the help.
Trying to keep the cost down(!): I thought I had seen somewhere that it might be possible to buy 2.24 USA at a discount now that 2004 is available. If I was to do that, would 3.07 recognise and use the maps if I was to add just them to the SD card, or will that only work with the new 2004 maps?
If I did add them as I suggest, would I have to 'trick' TT3 into searching for maps?
TIA |

3.07 will not work with 2.x maps - the file structure has changed slightly between these versions. It will work with 4.x maps if you have bought both products.
Keeping the costs down? Haha ;-) _________________ Lutz
