|
|
Hi there!
I've just received as a Christmas gift (!) a Navman GPS 4420 + hp iPaq Pocket PC h2210 bundled with SmartST v3.0 Navigation Software.
I've installed ActiveSync on my PC, then the Desktop part of SmartST, then installed on the iPaq and registered the product with its activation key.
Together with the 4 CDs (1 for the SmartST program and the other for the European maps) came an SD Card with Italian maps preloaded. If I insert the card in the iPaq I can see its files in explorer but when I launch SmartST, it can'see any map (and if I go into the program settings to select a map, the SD card list is empty).
Do I have to activate these maps with the second Key I have with the CDs (and if so how do I proceed?) or am I doing anything wrong???
Thanks in advance!

Do you know if you got a single region of maps or the full unlock? If the former, is it the Italian maps you want?
To activate the maps, connect your iPAQ to your Desktop PC and then use the Navman Desktop programme to register the maps, under Tools > Map Keys. The maps will be tied to the iPAQ you have connected at the time of registration and you can select your region at the time of registration. _________________ Tim |

Hi.
I have read elsewhere of problems with a bundle being sold in Italy at the moment, ( HP ipaq 2210 with Navman 4420) problems are with maps not being visible.
Obviously I don't know how accurate the report is and I initially dismissed it but this does sound similar to your problem.
Did you buy your bundle in Italy? _________________ Ian.

Hi Tim and icsys, many thanks for your replies!
Yes, it's a bundle sold in Italy...
I'm reluctant in trying to activate the maps already on the SD Card for fear of loosing the possibility of activating other maps from the 3 CDs in the box...
How can I understand if the code I have is a single region or a full unlock?
Any suggestion is welcome ;-)
Ciao for now

When you try to activate a mapset, you are asked to select a region. I can't remember exactly what happens, but when you select the region, if you have a full unlock code the whole of Western Europe will change colour.
Even if you only have a single region unlock code, you are still asked to confirm that the selected region is the one you want to unlock, so you have a chance to back out and select another one. _________________ Tim |

hi all
i had the same bundlke and the same problem
i did the wrong thing. i supposed to have italian map REGISTERED on the sd card so I REGISTERED other region, ( germany) anf then...
the palm and GPS see the new maps..-
and when i tried to unlock the italian one (once i understood the procedure, not explained in the manual) i receive a negative response.
now i realized i HAD TO REGISTER THE REGION containing italy to unlock the maps.
and now i have registered other region.. but i need italian maps
i'm desperate..

Many thanks darksalle!
Sorry for hearing your problems, and again thanks 'cause for sure I'd have done the same thing as you did...
Regarding Navman and SmartST I have to say I'm quite disappointed by their registration procedures; it takes a lot of time to register the program and they do not clearly state that you get all the European maps but only one code for one region... I understand they are trying to avoid pirated copies going around, but there must be a simpler way to do this...
Ciao for now!

I suspect your only option at this stage is to contact Navman Support for help.

Grrr - this would be OK if the product were free.
And for this we pay money?
There has got to be something dodgy about the SD card.
Having experienced (and I hope solved) similar issues the only common factor seems to eb: don't let the SD card anywhere near the PPC until SmartST is up, wunning, working and displaying maps
After that (for me) all went well
