How on earth do you view/read a map off a SD Card?
Tried everything, but no can do. Is it that difficult or am really dumb?

You need to save the map in fdp mode for an SD card. This option is available prior to the start of the map calculation. When you save the file it asks for the file in the file format option select fdp this is the format palm uses for storing these files on a SD card. The map sonic software automatically should find the file now.
Make sure when you synchronise that you check the desitination is the card and the file is not too Big for the SD card. As a useful note prior to sysncrhnisation make a copy of the map file prior to pressing the sysnch button else if you drop a new map into the card you will need to regenerate the map which as you know takes ages.
all the best

Many thanks. Sorted.
Shame the instructions do not mention anything about the pull down menu when saving files OR about the different file extensions.
Ho hum.

No problem I'm an embedded software engineer. This often helps me to work out
some software.
To be brutal it is a good product but the manual is so bad it doesn't help.
In the last few days I worked til 1.00am to get it to work propally for me that is fine I'm
a techy but for the general public it really isn't good enough.
all the best

Well I have followed ALL these instructions and have a map.fdp file sat on my SD card, I have had it in PALM, PALM/Launcher and several other places, yet when I launch Mapsonic and go to Open Map and select the card... absolutely nothing shows up. I can only open maps in main memory (.pdb).
Anyone any ideas. I am using the latest versions on my palm and on my desktop.

For Mapsonic to find the map(s) on the card it needs to be:
1. Saved in .fdp format
2. In a directory called MapSonic_Maps in the root directory of the card.
