|
|
Just picked up the wife's new car (couple of hours ago). This coupled with the fact that she got Gatsoed the other day (41 in a 30 at 02:18 am!) makes me think I should get her some SatNav/Speed Camera system. I'm quite happy with my TTN3/BT GPS/HP2210 solution but it's not exactly plug 'n' play. You have to power everything up in the right order, and sometimes it needs a soft reset, etc. I'm wondering if TT GO might be a simpler solution for her?
Thoughts? |

Yes, ask her what she wants!
She may be happy with an identical system to what you have.
She may want the switch-on-and-go functionality of the TT Go.
She may not want anything.
Best thing to do is let her use your system a few times and then come to a decision.

I'll ask her what she wants. She'll say she wants one like mine. Then she won't get on with it and will declare it a useless pile of crap.
One of the duties of being a husband is guessing in advance what your wife wants, and guessing correctly, without asking! Even if you ask, if it's wrong it's your fault. |

Yes i have a thought, instead of a sat-nav, why not fit her car with a speed govenor. |

I agree with Privateer on this one.
You could also try a little technique that I like to call, "Giving my wife some credit" as I'm sure she could manage to power up two or three items in the right order if she were shown how a few times 8) , and you never know, she might also be able to manage a soft reset too - with the right training, of course.

Trust me - get her a GO. Don't ask, just do it. Make it a present.
Wifes are more sensible than us blokes - they want to use stuff not analyse, improve, modify or extend it. You can do that when she's not looking! |

Get her a GO for this reason: It's neater. Trust me, your wife will not want wires everywhere. I have wires all over my car and get an earful everytime she gets in it! |

Also, if you can't afford satellite tracking, do what I do.
Put a "How's my driving?" sticker on the back of her car, along with your mobile number. :D |

GO! My wife has a PDA based solution and whilst she wouldn't be without it I do have to regularly re-install when it gets left in a glovebox for a week and the battery dies.
Unless she desires the other benefits of a PDA then Go does it all just as well (if not better) and because it is a dedicated solution it can be pressed into action whenever required without worrying about wether the battery is flat or some other piece of software has caused a problem etc.
My wife would dearly love a GO unit (as would I!) but having said all that she is happy enough to have a nav solution at all! _________________ Darren Griffin |

carl_w is being too kind - old_phil does not understand how women work, he doesn't even yet understand how his own wife works after 31 years living together!
But I have picked up some tips along the way - enought to know that in these circumstances GO is the right answer! |

Reminds me of the guy who put "How's my driving, call 09065 xxxxxxxx" (a premium rate number, £1.50 a minute) on the back of his van, then proceeded to drive around London like a complete arse :D |
