|
|
Hi guys,
I hope you can help me.
2 days ago my TomTom 730 started flashing an image saying that the SD card is missing - as far as I know it never has had one. It wont work at all now.
When I turn it on the tomtom logo appears and then the card is missing image follows
It wont connect to TomTom Home for updates etc and says "Device not connected" - but my pc does make a noise when i connect the TomTom via its USB port - it just wont do anything. right now it is connected to my pc and all that shows is an image of a tomtom device
I have RESET this several times, but nothing happens. Previously doing this would cure any hiccups, but seemingly not now.
HELP!!
Thanks,
Rob |

For starters, can you try a different usb port on the computer, not one connected to a hub. And preferably a port in the back of the computer.
Also, do you have a different usb cable you can try?
Does your unit seem to operate ok? If so, you may want to try the Restore to Factory Defaults. You'll lose all your custom settings but it may help _________________ David |

Hi,
Yes I tried 2 differnt USB ports at the back and two different USB cables also. The device turns on but does nothing at all.
How do I Restore the Factory settings? I have reset it several times with no joy.
Thanks,

About page 7 of preferences is the icon to restore to factory defaults. (If you don't see the icon, make sure you have the setting to show all menu options showing). _________________ David |

When I turn it on, all I get is an image of the device but with a Sim card image letting me know that the Sim card is missing.
I cannot turn it on to reach any functions whatsoever. |

Do you have a back up of the device on your computer?
If you do, try copying the back up to an SD card, and inserting it in the device. _________________ Anita

Have you got a spare (blank) SD card of 2GB capacity? If so try this:
Format card using FAT32 make sure its a full format and the "Quick Format" option in Windows Explorer isn't checked.
The Navcore 8,010 software is still available from the servers at TomTom:
For Go x20 devices click Here
For Go x30 devices click Here
To install this to your SD Card use WinRar which you can download from Here Pop the memory card in to a card reader.
Double click the file :
navcore_8.010.9369.gox20 for Gox20
navcore_8.010.9369.gox30 for Gox30
Depending upon which one you downloaded and winrar will fire up, use the mouse to select all files and folders then click "Extract To"
Locate the drive letter associated with your SD Card and click it, make sure the Overwrite mode is selected to "Ask before overwrite", then press "OK"
If the dialogue box pops up saying "Confirm File Replace" click the "Yes To All" button.
Sit back and watch the progress bar, with a good USB2 connection a Navcore 8,010 installation will take around 2 minutes.
When its finished the update use the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon from the Task Tray and remove the SD Card from the reader.
Put the memory card in to the TomTom and let the device boot up and tap the sat strength meter (lower Right) followed by the version box, the resultant screen will confirm the version installed is Navcore 8,010.
The device might come back with a "No Maps Found" message but at least we will know the hardware is working from the memory card. Nextwill be some further steps with respect to the missing map, find the back up or possibly a map update file stored on your PC which can be installed to the card without going anywhere near the useless Home software, when you get as far as the device either working or throwing the "No Maps Found" message post back with an update - Mike |

There was a similar post a few weeks ago, and so I did an experiment.
Making sure I had no SD card in the device, I deliberately messed up the system files on the internal memory.
Sure enough, when I switched on, it then showed a graphic of an SD card being taken out (with a red cross through it), not a graphic showing the internal memory.
So the message is just an error in the TomTom's tiny bit of brain remaining when the system files aren't there (a bit like a PC's BIOS, I guess).
What it is telling you is that it cannot read the system files on the internal memory. Replacing those as has been described on the forum lots of time should sort it out. |

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all your help and advice.
My TomTom is now fully working - dont ask me how, but I turned it on this morning and it seems fine.
Obviously I'll keep an eye on it and see how it goes.
Again, thanks for all of your input.
Regards,
Rob |

Please excuse the "shouting" but HAVE YOU MADE A FULL BACKUP OF IT WITH WINDOWS EXPLORER?
Do it now, while it is in a working state. Instructions are in our FAQs at the top of the TomTom forum index |
