Got an email from Tomtom offering me an £8 discount on anything from the online shop as it was their birthday.
Hey ho - over I toddle. Spot a relatively cheap external antenna that should do the job on the old 730T. A snip at about 15 quid plus P&P.
Get to the till, P&P is a hefty 6.95! So thats in effect free P&P and a guinea off me purchase.
Finally arrives and I notice that it has a 'right angled' connector block - no probs, but on closer inspection its connector is 'snapped' - a little persuasion and it is back to how it should be.
I haven't tested this yet but I envisage its going to be an absolute mare to plug and unplug from the back of the 730 due to its right angledness!
So much for having to hide your satnav when leaving the car - not going to be easy with this thing, I'm sure!
Guess I'll be travelling with a pair of smallish pliers handy to extract the external antenna! |

Is that the external Antenna for satellite reception - which you don't need because the x30 model chips are good to get signals without?
Whatever, I'd not be comfortable having to do "a little persuasion" to anything out of the box! _________________ Dennis

I to went and spent my £8 voucher and most of it went on p&p. I purchased the 2 years worth of map updates.
On the website where you buy the 2 years worth of map updates it said to save p&p buy, from HOME. So I tried HOME and the only option was for one year.
Anyway, a call to TomTom CS. I had a good chat to some one there who tried really hard to convince me that the only place I could get a 2 year update from was indeed the web site and not HOME. He was right, but I went onto mention that the web site said use HOME.
I mentioned that it said on the web site to use home but I was told the web site is badly worded and it really does not mean what it in fact says. Take a look and see what you all think!!! It was quite entertaining and the poor CS rep did try to convince me I was reading it wrong, may be I was.
Map Update Service card 24 months pre-paid (only for newly-bought devices)
1. Order the Service card online.*
2. Connect your device to an Internet-enabled computer.
3. Activate the Service card using the TomTom HOME application.
*You can also buy through TomTom HOME, which will save you the shipping cost of the scratch card.
Anyway, the map update service buying it through HOME is not included in the £8 offer
but buying the 2 year card then activating it using home is so doing it this way saved the p&p anyway!!!!!!!!!!
