|
|
I have just got a 530 from Halfords which was an ex display model.
The chap said he was not sure if the update for the map would work as the unit had been switched on.
I have installed TomTom home and it is on the "changing Content" screen downloading and installing stuff. Does the map update get done here automatically ?
One more question, can i still use camera database from here as chap said it would not work and was best to use TomTom updates. Is here best or Tomtom? |

Cheers.
I have a 2.5 year old TT one, is it the way to do the speed cameras?
Got to work out how I got the voice alerts on now.
Halfords chap gave me £50 off and a hard case, nice chap. |

You need to back up the device using Windows Explorer BEFORE doing anything with it.
Next update the software to the latest (currently 8,300)
Finally use the Latest Map Guarantee to get the new map (currently v815)
You can see what is actually on the device by tapping the sat strength meter followed by the version box, the resultant screen will give you the above information.
As for the PGPSW speed cameras and spoken alerts, they work in exactly the same way on all TomTom products in the PNA range - Mike |

How do you do this? is it done when you connect to Tomtom home for the 1st time, map version is not 815
Thank you.

The LMG is in the top menus in Home - Tools / Use LMG
You need to have updated the software to a v8 version before you will be offered v8 maps, and you only get one go at the LMG.
As we always say - BACK UP FIRST (using Windows Explorer not Home)
The TT-supplied speed cameras are set up in the Plus Services menu. |

Yeah, afraid so.
You used to be able to copy the settings file across to the new map folder, but v8.3 has changed the file format so you can't do it this time. |

Only if the the TomTom data actually has them!
You can run them both side by side for a while to convince yourself what a good decision you made to get the PGPSW one, then you can either just disable the alerts from the TT one or remove the files completely (I think there are instructions in the FAQs at the top of this forum section if you want to do that) |

I'm tempted to add this to the FAQ:
Ignore everything Halfords tell you about the GPS units they sell apart from the price, they're almost always talking rubbish! _________________ Darren Griffin |

TomTom cameras are in the Plus services menu - don't enable them.
You can remove them if you wish when connected to TT Home by going to the menu item "Remove Items". _________________ Dennis
