I have a TomTom730 when I was in London a new Camera logo appeared. (camera & a barrier) this seemed to coincide with a CCTV camera on a Bus Lane, If this is right, then has this come from TomTom! and is PGPSW going to add this database |

Bearing in mind that some buses carry cameras to catch bus lane offenders AND that bus lanes are clearly marked (you can't forget and stray into them), this sounds like a TomTom chocolate teapot - is it their Restricted Road camera for which I have long hunted?? It's a bit pointless publishing details of the odd fixed bus lane camera when the bus behind you is already snapping away.
Last time this question was asked, the reply from PGPSW was a resounding no, they don't intend to offer a database of bus lane cameras. _________________ Dennis

One thing that I have noticed is that different towns have different times and restrictions for using bus lanes.
The simple way to not get caught out is not to use them GENIUS
I have never yet found anywhere, where I am driving along thinking to myself..."Oh, how I wish I could use the bus lane to make my journey quicker and more pleasant" _________________ TT Go 720 (T)

Are you sure it wasn't a Congestion Charge camera or some other? I'll have to plot a few test routes and look, where was this? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Good point it may have been a TT restricted road camera icon, I have looked through my TT and cannot find the icon.
My question was is this from TomTom or where has it come from, not about the pros and cons of using bus lanes. I have been working around London West for the last 6 months and was surprised when this icon appeared.
around London West most of the bus lanes are covered by CCTV cameras on the street. I agree with Tom59, I never use the bus lanes as each one varies with times and restrictions i.e around Wembley you can use the bus lanes between 10-4 unless there is a venue on !!!!!, also you my use a bus lane but turn right or left and that bus lane may be restricted that's why I stay out of them.
No it was not a Congestion Charge as London West is out side the Congestion Zone |

It is actually quite pleasing when going to work on a saturday in SE London when there is a half mile queue for the traffic lights and no-one is using the bus lane, but when you check the signs it says Mon-Fri 7-10 so of you go right to the front without actually cheating, and actually saving yourself about 10-15 minutes on your journey.

Bus lanes for me are a boon,as they are also for taxi use as well !guess what i drive !,the lanes [other than the red lanes] are normally for set times usually to coincide with "rush hour",You cannot believe the amount of people who cannot understand this and still insist on driving down the out side lane out of these times, then there are those that think they can pull over a touch to the left so you cannot come pass them in the "lane"
Have to admit though it gives a nice feeling when there is a long tail back to a major junction /roundabout and you can breeze down a clear lane that also has sensors to change the traffic lights in your favour.
Yesterday the boot was on the other foot for me I was in my own car and had to sit in traffic 15-20mins to clear junction and watched fellow taxi drivers go past in the bus lane _________________ Square2024

Motorcycles can also use them, but only in some boroughs, it seems, or maybe even only certains buslanes within a borough. I have certainly used them on some roads and am surprised when the next sign I see only shows taxis and bicycles. A quick lifesaver and a shift to the right then become the order of the day. _________________ Tim |

Yep, we had a trial in London, but that's time expired now, and so a no no again. BMF are still going at the Mayors Office to let us bikers use them full time. The trial was a success, but now people are dragging their heels. _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |

I don't ride in front of buses in bus lanes but I habitually ride in bus lanes if I know where the cameras are and (touch wood), haven't been booked yet.
From the 5th Jan 2009, motorcycles will be allowed to use Red Route bus lanes. Good man, Boris! _________________ Gone fishing! |

I was looking at that after I posted. Only the Red Routes though - but a start.
Going to make shopping and getting to work easier anyway.
Mind you, have been frozen in the last few days and chickened out, drove instead. _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |
