Hi Everyone,
I think the title really explains my problem. Here's a bit of background. I use to have both TomTom 2 with a Toshiba PDA and Navman with my IPAQ. I found the Navman setup really bad when compared against the TomTom software. I have since sold both PDA's with the Nav kits.
I'm now back in the hunt for a new PDA with a Nav kit. It has to be TomTom based on my previous experiences and I really am a big fan of the 3D view. I've read the review of TomTom 3 and TomTom for Palm OS.
The only real problem is I have some unanswered questions which hopefully you can all help me with.
1. Does the Palm version have full postcode entry
2. Does anyone have a clear idea of the key differences between TomTom for Palm and TomTom 3 on Pocket PC.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers,
Kam |

Hi Kam,
I’d start off by having another read of the PocketGPS World reviews of both TTNav3 (PDA) and the Palm one. I though the Palm review stated the differences, but I may be wrong!
Neither TT product has full postcode lookup. If that’s a necessity then the decision is made, go for the TTNav3 on the PDA and grab a copy of UK Postcode by Niels Thomsen.
The Palm version doesn’t (yet) allow custom POIs to be loaded. There are no add-ons (e.g. CheckPOInt, GPSAssist, UK Postcode, etc.) for the Palm version.
Personally, I’d go for TTNav3 and an HP 2210 iPAQ (they seem very popular nowadays). The only other choice is wired or Bluetooth GPS receiver.

TomTom doesn't have FULL postcode entry in either version. There is a free addon for win2002/PPC2003 written by Niels which works extremely well (full postcode), but there is so far no equivalent for Palm.
Details of Niels' program are on the TomTom forum

Just to add to what Robert (Privateer) posted, my understanding is that TomTom Traffic will only be available at launch on the Pocket PC - I'm not sure if future availability for the Palm is planned.
You also have the POI warning software and similar available on the Pocket PC - I'm not sure there's even an SDK for Navigator on the Palm.
I'd go for a Pocket PC.
