|
|
We have taken the decision to withdraw the HOME compatible version of our database for the time being.
TomTom users who previously used this version should instead choose the TomTom OV2 version and install the files manually. This is our preferred procedure and allows access to files for all the countries we support unlike the HOME version.
We will review this decision in due course. _________________ Darren Griffin

Presume that is to prevent illegal sharing from within the Home application. _________________ Graham.

Actually even files installed manually can be shared via Home. But it is part of a wider review of our support for TomTom's HOME application in light of the new service which we do not approve of. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks Darren, seems quite a bit of dubious content is starting to appear for download from within the Home 2 application.
TomTom would soon shut it down if it was their maps being shared. _________________ Graham.

Quite TomTom really should stick to producing the software and steer well clear of applications such as HOME. Poorly implemented and poorly coded.
The latest debacle has proved something of a tipping point for us, the sharing feature is a complete farce and it has caused a lot of anger amongst community web-site owners. _________________ Darren Griffin |

My TT1XL came with speed cameras from Easy Devices. A good company that I've used before for my Mio PDA. The 'speed camera alerts' have been useful to me.
After the latest download of HOME I find that my speed cameras have vanished from my device and my C drive.
Oh bother!!
So, before I join this helpful bunch of GPS experts (and their brains) what do you mean by saying that HOME is no longer available for TT1XL users, but I'll have to do a manual transfer to my device?
I have a son who does my computer stuff for me because I really am the original pc illiterate twit. I want your speed camera and POI upgrades but I fear that I'll cock it all up once I try to download.
Thank you for your time and effort. _________________ An ex-X9 rider. Now Gilera Nexus 250ie. Call me 'humph.' |

The camera files are still available in the ov2 format for your device, all you need to do is select the TomTom ov2 files in the required format (single file, consolidated by type or Speed Zoned), unzip the downloaded file and copy the contents to the map folder on the memory card. This is the traditional method for installing POI files to a TomTom device - Mike |

humph, This is regarding the speed camera database from this site. For a while, it was available for either manual installation or one that interfaced with the Home application. The only thing that has been withdrawn is the installation version for Home.
I expect the cameras you "had" on the XL were the demo version of TomTom's own cameras that come with the device. They are probably still on your PC but Home just can't find them. (Yes we know sounds silly)
As you appear to want the better database from here anyway, nip over to the Subscriptions page where you can become a member for £19 a year. Free lifetime subscriptions are available for those that are first at identifying a new camera site.
You will need to download the TomTom OV2 files (I would recommend the Speed Zoned version) and copy these to the XL as per the instructions. _________________ Gerry

Mike and Gerry, I've signed up and downloaded. What a delight. It makes best use of the XL's widescreen view. Do I download Gerry's brand new, colour co-ordinated, speed box thingies? They look very good and you're receiving excellent reviews.
Once again it's the technical aspect of transference that frightens me. _________________ An ex-X9 rider. Now Gilera Nexus 250ie. Call me 'humph.' |

Assuming you have a full Windows Explorer created backup there is nothing stopping you customising the device as much (or little) as you want, there are some tips on the FAQ page which can be found Here - try #1 for backups #5 for spoken alerts and put GerryC's icons on while you are at it - Mike |

Best description I'm seen for then ever.
The transfer and setting up can be a pain the first time but just follow the instructions step-by-step and you'll be fine. Following downloads just need the data files overwritten and takes a minute to do.
Get it working first with the default icons so that you know it's working then copy the "speed box thingies" across which just overwrites the relevant default icons. _________________ Gerry
