Hi Folks
This Post is for any users who may be toying with the idea of buying a Tomtom Go.
I have been a constant user of a Tomtom navigator since the days of TT3 and very satisfied I have been too. However, on the spur of the moment I entered my card details and have subsequently purchased a Tomtom Go 720.
So, how do I find the 720 compares with Tomtom navigator? and do I think I have made the right decision? Here are my views.
Now, I was sure that my Dell Axim/Tomtom couldn’t be bettered and although I now feel a bit of a traitor I have to admit that the Go is superior.
It starts quicker, locks onto the satellites quicker, and the screen is larger and very clear. When driving I can read the information details shown on the bottom of the screen far easier than on my PDA Tomtom. On my PDA the information was so small (I ware driving glasses) I found it difficult to read the info when driving.
The Map Mode on the Go scrolls far quicker than on my PDA too. The Map of Western Europe on my PDA was rather a pain when I wished to scroll or Zoom in/out.
However, although I can find nothing wrong with the device there is one thing waiting in the box that has to be seen to be believed. It’s the Screen Mount. Its dreadful. Its not worth a £1 and having looked at it for a few speechless seconds I just knew that it would fall off when I hit my first pothole. It did. So, anyone thinking of buying the Go just be prepared to part with another £30 to buy another car mount. Very annoying.
Apart from the Mount I am quite satisfied _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

I find that the x20 mount sticks to the screen very well, and to be honest I have never yet had it fail with the device attached, it could be yours is faulty or are you attaching it to a heavily curved part of the windscreen?
If you suspect its faulty give customer support a ring on 0845 161 0009 to arange for a replacement mount.
It is true the x10 devices were problematic with the screen attachment, but the x20 device whilst looking like a cheap bit of plastic performs very well - Mike |

Hi mikealder
Yes, you may be right. However, I have since purchased another mount from a third party manufacturer that had been recommended on the Pocket GPS World forum and a brilliant bit of kit it is too. I have also contacted Customer Support and I will be getting a replacement. I suppose I should have done that as soon as it fell off the screen. Never mind. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.
