Well I bought speed Sentry and it loaded onto the Ipaq 2210 o.k. I haven't had any success in registering it as yet as when trying to do so all I get is "Incorrect serial number" Have checked case sensitivity of my name as accompanying email suggests, but no joy. Have emailed them and await their advice but I think New Zealand are now going to bed.
The programme however looks very good but of course will now have to wait to buy the GPS receiver to make it function. The benefit of the 2210 is it has both a CF and SD card slot as well as bluetooth capability. I guess the choice will have to come down to what is the neatest and more universal between them. I guess the bluetooth as I could perhaps use this with both the mac and the pc. Wll have to go and look in the "For Sale & Wanted Section) for a bargain. Will also be looking for a "mounting bracket/kit" I guess. |

The serial number is tied to the device ID IIRC, so if you registered the software in the name of "nuttynurse" you must have this as the PDA's name, go to Start/ Settings_System Tab/ About_Device ID and make sure what is entered for the Device Name is the same as the one you registered the software with.
One other GPS device for you to consider is the Holux GR-271 it is a low power CF card SiRF-III receiver and works very well in all conditions - I found this consumes less power in use than having the Bluetooth switched on with my ipaq-4700, although it is not an easy product to locate these days - Mike |

I'm using a Globalsat BC-337 CF GPS on my 2210, works well. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks for the feedback. I paid for the programme through paypal. The returned email gave a serial no. with following instruction.
Quote: |
If your serial number does not work, please check the name displayed on the
registration screen matches the supplied name. Please note that the owner
name is case sensitive. If the name supplied was incorrect let us know and
we will be happy to supply a new serial number. |
I will have a play anyway until I hear back from them again.
Thanks for the both suggestions on the receivers, will have a look at both. |

Hi Nuttynurse,
I have paid for Speed Sentry via PayPal today and I received my serial number back from them, 45 minutes ago. So Trevor is now online in New Zealand.
If you have any problems, send him an email as he's a friendly chap!

Hi Privateer,
I did get in touch with Trevor as you suggested and he was most helpful. It turned out in the end that the number generator he used to give me a serial number did not match with my name. He had tested this out on his own pda device and had got the same error message. Alls well now as he had given me a new number that tallies.
Top marks to Trevor for his support. I would happily recommend Speed Sentry. For a little over a fiver you get a good looking piece of usable software and personal support. Got to be worth it. . |

I bought the Globalsat 337 CF in the end simply because it was available from ebay from uk rather than as import from Japan. Anyway I have it running with Speed Sentry but as yet havent been able to use both in conjunction with the speedcamera database. mikealder, can you clarify what the "correct folder" is. I have I believe managed to download the "Other CSV Format" and "Single file" referred to.
Perhaps you or Darren could also recommend a suitable mount. I need one easily transferable between cars rather than a car specific model. I also think a mount with an amplified speaker would be useful considering the fairly low sound quality from the built in speaker.
Thanks. |

Have a read of the last couple of posts in the thread Here it details the file and how to specify where the GPS Speed Sentry should look for it.
As for a mount I would consider a Brodit device to hold the unit in the car, you will need both the holder and the Pro Clip for your vehicle, but you won't go far wrong with this arrangement, they are a solid offering and work very well - Mike |

Get Brodit's amplified mount (that is what I use) and the gooseneck windscreen accessory so that you can move it between cars easily? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Well I have been using the Speed Sentry in conjunction with my Ipaq 2210 and Globalsat 337 and I have to say I like it. For just about a fiver its a useful programme that allows me to make use of the pocketgpsworld database, albeit perhaps in its simplest form. I get an alert tone and a graphical directional image, no voices prompts, though the images are very good.
The two most useful elements of Speed Sentry for me is the graphical output for the speed reading, which is the only interface where the camera database currently cuts in when approaching a gatso, etc. The other useful part is the individual speed settlng element. You can manually change the speed setting at which a warning is given ( 35 instead of 30 for instance) and also easily change between the speed limits ( 40 t0 60) at anytime as this graphic feature remains parts of the touch screen interface as a whole. It would be nice if Speed Sentry could some how utilise the pocketgpsworld database for its speed warnings alerts rather than just relying on the manual setting for speed limits but maybe that will come in future updates. For now this feature remains useful as it is easy to set, to turn the sound off if preferred, leaving just the red flashing graphic to alert you of overspeed in speed sensitive areas etc. I would also like to see a setting that would allow the camera database to cut into any of the graphic elements rather than just the speed output, but again this may evolve.
As yet I don't have "TomTom 6" or any other navigational aid on my Ipaq so Speed Sentry is the only programme that I currently have which allows me the use of the speedcamera database and for a fiver its well worth the money.
If there are other similar programmes this good be sure to let me know. |

With regards to the alerts, have you tried the functionality that SS has? It can be configured to automatically set it's speed alert to the speed of an approaching camera and then reset to 70 once you've passed.
This is as good as it can get really as we don't hold speed data for roads, only cameras. It works well for me? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Don't forget it is possible to use wav files for the audio alerts, just grab one of the TomTom OGG audio file packs and convert the sound to .wav format using Audacity This way you can get the software to issue a spoken alert of an approaching camera - Mike |
