My first encounter with a sat nav that could only do what it has been programmed for, my mistake was not checking traffic reports before I set off. Starting off heading south from Junction 7 M11 only to find J6 East lane was coned off and manned by police, so I thought I would see what my nuvi 250 would do, it took me west along the M25 to J25(A10) then it was going to send back down to the M25 which by now was at a standstill and all I would have have done is joined a queue that was going nowhere. Fortunately I know the area and got myself out of trouble.
My point is that if you have not got instant updating you must use sat navs as a guide and not blindly follow them.
I have found my Garmin nuvi 250 excellent with no technical problems, only human(me).

This is where a TMC would come in handy - in theory. However, in this country coverage by the sole provider is sometimes a bit sketchy but mine has been a real boon in these situations. gets even better in (say) Germany, where I get sometimes up to 12 different stations all wanting to advise me of possible trouble ahead.

You are right though, GPS and TMC has to be used as a guide and not allow it to become something that has to be followed blindly. We all have brains, dont we Question Wink
