I am also currently torn between these two.
Price TT - £290 vs £415 for the 670
£30 for a future TT FM transmitter mount (if needed).
Unsure as to if TT Traffic is better than the RDS traffic with the 670. |

Garmin use TrafficMaster for their TMC data, TomTom use iTIS. I have found neither to be better than the other and using FM receivers reception is poor on both. At least with the TomTom you have the option of receiving traffic over GPRS using a compatible phone which is what I do.
At the end of the day the decision will be a personal one. I dislike the Garmin user interface, too fisher price for me and custom POP support is not as comprehensive. However many others like the UI. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I am now thinking it will be the 660 or the 910.
I can't see how FM Transmitter is worth an extra £100 as I wouldn't play MP3s on the unit and instead would want to listen to the radio and hear directions.
If the internal speaker is loud enough that will be fine.
I actually like the UI in the Nuvi, but am a little concerned over the speed of refresh on the maps that I have seen. On the positive side I like the form factor and the mount looks rock solid.
The TT has a pretty speedy refresh rate from what I can see I actually (slightly) prefer the map UI too (but not the menu UI).
How easy is it to (say) navigate to a petrol station with the 910? |

Tap Screen
Navigate To
Points of Interest
POI Near You
Petrol Station
This sounds more long winded than it is but actually is very fast. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I recently moved from TomTom Navigator to nuvi 660. It's a totally different "look and feel" and it took a bit of getting used to - but I wouldn't be without my nuvi now.
Speed of display - is fit for purpose when navigating a route.
I find the internal speaker loud enough for navigation and hands-free phone connection - which works really well with the three phones I have tried - my Nokias (6820 and 6310) and my wife's Samsung E530. It's quite fun to see SMS messages pop-up on the screen. _________________ Phil |

Thanks for the comments. All taken on board!
One question Phil, do you use the traffic functionality on the 660?
I am working on the basis that it doesn't work. |

I had it working this weekend in anger. It correctly warned me of delays on the A49 in South Cheshire (it was closed for 8 miles). I had a good lock on TMC for the most of the journey from Cheshire to South Shropshire, both directions. The dead area is around my home area (North Cheshire) and I suspect it is down to a problem with the transmitter on the Winter Hill aerial(s). I live 21 miles line of site from it - so there should be no excuse. I also get the TMC from the Manchester based radio station (Galaxy FM) on 102.0 when I get within 12 miles of Manchester.
All this on the basic GTM21 piece of wire, mounted vertically on RHS windscreen. When I get a bit of free time it is being patched into my amplified aerial on the VW. _________________ Phil |

Phil,
Is there a special interface to enable you attach the sat nav to the radio aerial? |

The FM transmitters are illegal in the UK and all the sites I've seen sy that the unit doen't have the FM feature so I'm guessing its disabled.

@ Phil, |
No they're not. They used to be but Ofcom repealed that legislation in line with an EU mandate in December 2006. Garmin may have disabled them prior to this but I see no reason why they would so so now.

Have only used the Tom Tom 910 and Garmin 276C
The TomTom hardware is not as reliable as the Garmin
Have had to reset the 910 several times and also have fried a Tom Tom charger. The screen on 910 has frozen up before.
The hands free phone on 910 is not very good!
The mike is poor quality and it tends to repeatly drop the blue tooth connection to the mobile.
Have fitted Parrot to our vehicles as hands free kit. Have never dropped connection yet.
Regards
