Yep - V4.00 at last.
Poor reception where I live so no blue diamond - will try on way to work tomorrow. At least it didn't appear to be locking onto Classic FM (101.1). _________________ Phil |

I'm getting a max Level of 46 in the GTM Status hidden menu screen, but no messages coming through.
Only trying in the house at the moment with GTM12 struck to window, so may be better trying outside. _________________ Nuvi 310 v3.90

Not sure about that - mine doesn't contain that but sounds significant. Have you also got a 428KB Bin file in the Garmin directory? |

Got a 435kb bin file.
I'm going to try re-installing the original 32kb bin file & update again. _________________ Nuvi 310 v3.90

Hi there again,
Just thought you would like to hear about this one..........
I had an interesting chat with Garmin this morning about this firmware upgrade and guess what? First of all I was directed to the software upgrade page by some totally inept tech support person and told to download Webupdater and then apply the download!
I then very politely asked why would I want to do that now, when I have Webupdater installed already and I have been using the bloody thing for the last three days to try and install the firmware upgrade!
The same tech person then said that the upgrade did not work on certain Nuvi's at this stage, to which my reply was - It don't work on any from what I could understand........
I was then asked where I came by that information, to which I replied On this forum.......
Oh dear I don't think we are liked a lot!
The same dunce then went on to inform me that it will be alright when its available for every unit....
I then replied that all was suppsed to be alright after the V3.90 Upgrade.
Blank bloody silence!
At this point all my toys got thrown out of the Pram!
"I am going to pass you onto someone who can help you a bit further"
Yippee!
I then spoke to the most helpfull guy in the world who could not have been more apologetic if he tried who basically said they were still working on it!
FFS.......... Why couldn't the dunce have told me that in the first place!
I then went on to have a little chat about companies selling a product that basically did not work.........
I made an analogy that if people bought cars and the ECUs were programmed incorrectly with an upgrade which prevented their car from running correctly, all hell would be let loose, Loan cars would be handed out left right and centre and it would be plastered all over the press until it was corrected........... and it would be sorted out a damn site faster that this shower of S***.
I also pointed out that if we all sent our units back that did not work and demanded a refund so we could purchase alternative makes of product then they would probaly all be out of a Job!
This nice chap at Garmin actually agreed and apologised again and hopefully now it seems someone has kicked some A**E and about bloody
time!
This debacle is a shame!
I have been using Garmin GPS Units for more than ten years now both commercially and privately and generally think there product range is superb and there customer support and service are second to none (Other than the occasional DUNCE!) and for that reason I will continue to use them until ther call centre is located in some far flung country of the world where elephants trample on the phone lines..............
Anyway enough said........... lets hope the V4.00 firmware lives up to what they say it will do! |

Well, so far, v4.00 still doesn't work for me.
With v3.70 I had a working GTM system, with v3.90 & now it look like v4.00 it doesn't.
Will give it a day or two of travelling round before deciding whether to return to Garmin for a fix or get a refund.
This has gone on for too long now. _________________ Nuvi 310 v3.90

| What channels is it tracking Ken?
I am getting the following data:
Chnl 164 strength 28
Chnl 179 strength 29
Chnl 145 strength 10
Chnl 86 strength 29
Only 179 is of use in the immediate local area (Fylde - Lancashire), and I still don't know what the value is to actually get traffic data to the device - it is certainly interested in 179 but I guess I am too far away from Winter Hill, perhaps you will have better luck in the morning? - I will give it a try again (my traffic receiver was in the spares box until this update as it was useless post the last "update") using it "as supplied" in the morning before trying the external aerial connection - Mike |

Northender,
Might be worth considering a hard reset if you don't get it working. _________________ _________________

Where do you find out about what channel and what strength you are receiving? |

I wouldn't have thought the reception of traffic info was worse with version 4.00 than previous versions - its all down to how good an aerial you have got - the basic wire aerial is not good enough especially inside a car - you need to connect to an external car aerial and ideally an FM amplifier as well. |

Mike, it's tracking:-
Chnl 129 strength 38
Chnl 55 strength 34
Chnl 143 strength 26
Chnl 136 strength 25
mainly.
Still no message count though.
Will try again in the morning on the M6. _________________ Nuvi 310 v3.90

Hi all,
I upgraded my GTM to v4.00 earlier, and then tried it heading to my Parents only about 15 mins away (I live just outside Dudley) anyway I'm glad to report that after only around 7 mins it received the Traffic Info, I also tried it on my way home too (in case it was a fluke) & again it received the Traffic Data, so fingers crossed it's now all sorted!!!
Think the real test will be when I'm out and about tomorrow!!!
(Really hope it's fixed now, starting to get angry getting stuck in traffic)
Cheers

Well, at least with v4.00 my new traffic receiver has finally left Classic FM and picked up 4 local TM radio stations, but even after 2 long drives (in areas my old GTM12 would easily pick up traffic) still no traffic. Looks like I might need to keep trying, and possibly resite my aerial. _________________ Please don't be offended if I do not reply to a PM - please ask questions via the forums. |
