I certainly won't moan, but talk about hiding your light under a bushel - Miotech obviously don't want people updating!

I don't believe that my polite request for you not to engage in multiple cross-posting was in any way a 'moan'.
I'm very happy for other people to make their own judgement on this.

Hi all.
I was gobsmacked to find that the update included maps (huge download).
Never seen that before.
Well done Mio.
Now off to try and get the thing working.

Finally finished the massive installation of MioMap v3.2 and here's some observations: -
Nothing is visually different so it's the same MioMap we all know and love!
POI's now stay in the group that you place them in/move them to rather than moving themselves when you restart. This was one of my pet hates!
Version now listed as v3.2 Sep 22 2006
Maps are all listed as version 2006.01 with the exception of United Kingdom 2006.01+ and Ireland 2006.04
I'm going out tonight so I will try it on the road and see how the Speed Camera and Speeding warnings are working.
Any questions feel free to ask.

I have just finished installing the new updates, took a while but hope it is all worth it. I am now hoping that someone can come up with the means to get the pocketgps speedcams on there and then we will all be happy.
{ jus a suttle hint sallyann....please }.
By the way I totally agree with sallyann as regards to the cross posting, I dont know how many times I saw a new posting yesterday and then found it to be the same one, rather annoying.
Anyway, now that we have got what we wanted, lets get it spot on and get the decent speedcams on there. I was also surprised to see that our Phillipa was still on there, thought she might have been pushed out with the new voice files.

As far as I can see, the only map that has a later date than previously installed in Ireland. I haven't bothered with the others.

I endorse fully sallyannes comments regarding cross posting.
If the level of cross posting had been performed on other forums/boards the feedback would have been significant less polite that that which MioC210user received.
This board is user friendly and I apprechiate fully the help and assistance I receive from other posters. Lets try and keep it as such, light hearted and no cross posting.

Thank you Ernest_mio.
Mio210User has sent me a very nice personal note and the matter is now happily closed.

A word of advice to anyone downloading the updates. The Mio server seems to be sensitive to any interruption in the download and can drop out with an "http error". To avoid this, make sure you have nothing running in the backgroup that might also access the web, e.g. email program.

having had the pleasure of re-installing version3.1 from the CD - is there a simple way of capturing the v3.2 software just in case Mio pull it from their web site? This download seems to be going stright to the device rather than staying on the PC. |

The process for each file in turn seems to have two stages:
1. Download from Mitac to your PC.
2. Move from PC to the Mio device.
Whilst we have no reason to think that Mitac might want to withdraw the update, it would make sense once you have it working correctly, to backup all the files from the Mio to the PC. I will certainly be doing so.

Totally agree sal, thing is I am not all that experienced pc wise, could you please explain the best way to go about this, when you have the time obviously. I would be very gratefull.
Thanks in advance...Dilwyn _________________ ***************************************

Well, I don't know who else has tried v3.2, but I've tried it and:
the maps are new
the routing is slightly different
instructions are better (eg when approaching a roundabout)
speed camera warnings come much earlier
TMC now works
so there have been some differences between my journey to work and home again, having installed v3.2 in the meantime - but it all looks good for me and I drive 60 miles each way to and from work.
I suggest that anybody who's complaining either hasn't tried v3.2 properly or they were already using v3.2 and therefore don't notice a difference. |
