|
|
Hi all,
I spoke to a chap from garmin on the phone before regarding my sound problem and he told me that obviously they only provide the poiloader and not the poi`s, he informs me that in the files for the speedcams there is a volume setting for the bongs, what I wanted to know was, is it possible to increase the volume on the actual files prior to downloading. This would probably help as sometimes they can be hard to hear if you have a radio on or a window open.
Thanks....Dil _________________ ***************************************

Hi paul, the answer is I dont know, I assume its in all the bumff that MaFt and ash use to do the poi things, it tells the unit at what volume to sound the " bings and bongs" which made me think it would be nice to increase the volume on the original file. Maybe MaFt and ash know what the hell I`m on about.

Suprised "the man from Garmin" couldn't tell you himself!
Never seen anything in the files that is volume related but then again you never know... |

Hi paul,
He asked me if the volume on the unit was ok when I was being given voice directions , said it was, then went on to say that garmin were not resbonsible for the poi`s and the "volume" on them and if they were too low why dont I increase the volume on the files and not having a clue what he was on about thought I would mention it on here hoping someone else would. I would have thought that there would be something on the poi program/ file re the bongs and when they actually start sounding and therefore maybe how loud they are.
Sorry have been on nights and in zombie mode, so maybe I am not explaining very well.

I sent an e-mail to a chap from garmin whom I have dealt with before and asked him about these files, here is his reply
Quote: | Dear Dilwyn,
Thank you for your concern, unfortunately I am not aware of volume control on poi's, when poi's are sent to the unit, I believe that they would be set to a certain volume level. Does your volume on the Nuvi work as normal? if you set the units volume to high, do you find a change in volume on the unit? There isn't a set way of changing the volume on poi's that I am aware of, as my colleague suggests, please contact the poi company for information on the possibility of volume alteration on the files.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

So it is down to whoever writes the files and if they can " increase" the volume on there, if there is a setting that is.
As far as my nuvi is concerened everything was fine yesterday and this time I could hear the bongs without any problems. But as a matter of interest it would be nice to know the answer to the above for future reference.
Thanks....DIL _________________ ***************************************

I think he's either guessing or talking out of his hat. |

the poi files i do are simple csv files. no data for volume or anything like that...
having looked at the gpx files that ash10 and cbrom's utilities make i've never seen any option in their for a volume level!
think the garmin bloke may be a bit confused. i presume he meant the new poi loader where you can have your own mp3 audio file for the warning - i.e. if the mp3 is quiet the warning will be quiet?
that's the only think i can think of!!
