|
|
I have decided to buy a new 1Mb high speed SD card to carry all my European maps to save the hassle of having to load each section/region when required on to my current 512Mb card - lazy I know! However, in searching for a suitable one I have found quite a number varying in price from about £30 up to around £50.
Without the experience of using any but Kingston and Crucial in the past. I need first hand advice from forum members as to the the most suitable. Price is a consideration but then so is reliability so let's hear from you
Thanks in advance. _________________ Gee-Pee

What do you consider to be high speed? Although not in a 520, I've had excellent use out of 32 speed Lexar cards and have just invested in two 2Gb 80x Integral ones which are so far performing as expected. _________________ Tim |

Something like this, Tim... http://www.mobymemory.com/proddetail.asp?prod=SD%5FSANDISK%5FULTRAII%5F1024%5F001 but having no experience of Moby cards, I don't know if one would be suitable and fast enough to enable me not to experience any noticable time lag in instructions from the device. _________________ Gee-Pee

Hi Gee Pee
I have been running a PNY 1GB since December.
I have not experienced any problems. I purchased it from Ebuyer (no connection) & it came the next day. Visit the site there is a link to the manufacturers site with a breakdown of read & write speeds. I think its value for money and I have recommended it to other GPS users. I have posted threads about it that you may have read on this site.
They do 2 types with different speeds, I have the faster one.
What I have noticed is that with a soft reset it takes ages to load all the map data, it seems to load them all weather they are checked or not, but the ones that are not checked are not active. I think it’s a software anomaly, but does not seem to cause any problems only time. I have loaded all UK, France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Northan Italy & world base maps, speed camera POI’s with room for lots more.
Regards

I use Sandisk in my camera gear with no problem. Currently have a 1Gb SanDisk Extreme® III SD card in the Navman and not noticed any adverse performance over the original 128Mb card originally supplied or the 512Mb Kingston card I bought before I realised you could use larger cards in the 510.
Fit all the street level mapping for our hols abroad no problem. |

Correction: The SD cards at the lower price are not Sandisk but are clones. The lowest price found so far has been ca £47. _________________ Gee-Pee

Have looked at both shops but neither has any 'Extremes' in stock - I understand that this model transfers data at 20Mb per sec, but I am wondering if I can make do with a Sandisk II which runs at about 9Mb per sec.... _________________ Gee-Pee

Ebay. I've always gone for genuine cards as it's just not worth the potential hassle. |

Hope you don't mind me posting, I'm pretty new to all this, and only had my ICN510 for around a week.
I brough the European Premium Edition, and so the supplied 128Mb card was pretty much full with the pre-installed UK maps, and the Speed Camera Database.
I took a chance, and brought a 1Gb Kingston Elite Pro (High Speed) card from e-buyer for around £24. I've copied my original Navman SD Card across, and installed "Southern Ireland" and "The European Base Map". SD Card space used and available appears to be reported fine through Smart ST2005 Desktop.
I've tried calculating routes to Bruges in Belgium, Portsmouth, and London, and it seems to be working fine. I haven't yet had chance to take my ICN510 out in the car.
From your far greater experience than my own, does anyone forsee any problems?
Many Thanks,
Andy. |

Welcome to the Forum, Andy.
Sounds like you got a good deal on the SD Card. You should still have bags of room on the card, which should hold the whole of the European street level maps. With the Premium edition, I presume you have all of europe on discs.. Cannot see why you should have any problem with your equipment, but if you do someone is always here to help. _________________ Gee-Pee

Following Andy's post, above, I tried to get one of these cards from Ebuyer but they are out of stock at the moment. However, Stuff UK do have them at £25.99 - that is the (Kingston 1Gb Elite Pro High Speed SD card) - which is a pretty good deal, particularly as postage is included.
Thanks to all who have contributed with recommendations. _________________ Gee-Pee
