Hi all,
Does anyone know whether the tomtom maps are interchangeable between devices, ie do palmtop navigator maps work on tomtom mobile systems (eg SE P910i)?
If so, are there any known quirks or issues and will performance degrade?
grtz,

yes, TeleAtlas maps are interchangeable. Navteq maps are locked to the Rider.
No quirks. _________________ Lutz

Thanks, I thought as much. Yet I have a navigator map of finland which will not be recognized. The only difference I can see from the original install is that the .cfg file become's a different filesize after starting tomtom5 on my mobile. What is that file for and could that be the problem? |

the map may just be too old. As of TTN5.10 TTN does no longer open v4 maps. _________________ Lutz

No. You would have to upgrade your software or downgrade your map. |

I'm sure you mean the converse: downgrade the software or upgrade the map. And that is precisely my question: is it possible to upgrade a map? Or do you mean: fork out the pecunia's for a new one? Surely Teleatlas don't build their maps from scratch?! |

Currently they don't seem to provide free upgrades for maps, so paying is the only option.
Teleatlas don't exactly build their maps from scratch but they charge TomTom the full fee each time anyway. |

TeleAtlas don't build maps. They gather surveyed data and put it into a multi gigabyte database with hundreds of attributes ber data set. from that database comanies like TomTom buy some of the attributes, and then compile their maps. TomTom build their maps from scratch every single time. That's one of the reasons why newer maps can come out worse than older maps. _________________ Lutz

Even tho the countries are seperate maps, the package includes a complete overview of Europe called 'Major Roads of Europe' which covers the whole of western europe from Scandinavia to Iberia and Italy. MAGIC!
Magic, yet I wonder why they work at all? |
