|
|
I have had Navigator 3 on my PDA for many months now, and am happy with it, ... but like all small boys ... I like toys!
Is the move from 3 to 5 worthwhile?
Are there any set-backs?
From the absolutely excellent review on this web-site when Nav 5 came out last year, it seems to be a far more 'complicated' (screen rich!) product.
Do you get an update from the web?... and if so does this include new maps? ... (which is probably my main justification for looking to move 'up')
Or is it a matter of buying a software pcakage from one of the retailers.
So many questions ..... sorry.
.... Is it really worth the effort to go from 3 to 5?

it depends on the person some hate it some love it ,i for 1 am so used to it now i prefer it over tt3 the maps run smoother but are still old ,also i am now so used to the built in warner over the other 1 ,a few things are missing but you get over it
but it really is down to you ,the best thing is to buy it and try it really _________________ TomTom 5001 |

Thanks Andy.
I see that you use the TomTom traffic subscription. That's quite expensive.
I use the free downloaded PocketGPS database, which works well for me ... and I get to hear 'Jane' telling me where to go.
There seems to be a multi-layering of screens with the Nav 5.
Whilst it obviously gives more options .. does it make it much more complicated to use?
Also is also possible to choose what and where you see on the 'safety' (over pre-set speed) screen?
Thnaks for your time and advice. _________________ TomTom Start 25 M UK & ROI

This is easy to do go to Change Preferences arrow right six times locate the Turn-off map display and select it, then check the box above a certain speed, finally enter the desired speed you wish this to become active at - Mike |

As Mikeact said, I prefer V3, Did Try V5 but switched back to V3.
Also prefer GPSAssist for the speed warnings as it is much more configurable and gives up to 3 spoken warnings for each speed camera or any other POI including telling you what the speed limit is. _________________ Graham.

Wow, has this post proved worthwhile!?
I was going to buy the new version, but no-one has been full of praise for it, so I reckon on staying where I am, with V.3
Do I asssume that V.5 would not allow me to use the PocketGPS camera database and CheckPoint?

You can use the Pocketgps camera database with TT5 (I do so every day)
There is a later version 5 CheckPOInt which works with TT5. The only problem is a flashing warning screen (which can be disabled) It issues audible warnings in exactly the same way as earlier versions of CheckPOInt.
When I first upgraded to TT5 I was unconvinced. It did not have the ability to select custom road speeds, and offline itinerary planning and storing was not available. The so-called advanced planning option allowed only one waypoint and routes could not be saved. The GPS driver also seemed poor. On the other hand the display was much smoother and less jerky.
With the latest patch, the GPS driver is much better, and there is a workaround for the itinerary planning which is almost as convenient as TT3. I have used it extensively in Britain, France and Spain and am now very happy with it. There are some mapping and routing aberrations from time to time, but far fewer than with the other programs I have used (CoPilot 6 and Mapopolis).
