Posted: Mon Dec 12, 2005 12:08 pm Post subject: Tomtom One Route Question |
|
|
I have just got a Tomtom One, and so far I am very impressed. I have a quick question though. Can I set up a route, but not have the spoken directions such as turn left or turn right (without just turning the speaker off).
The reason I ask is that I have set up the camera database, now if I set the POI’s to warn when on route I get informed of the cameras on my route, but I have to set up a route and have the directions as well and this can get a bit boring when I am going somewhere that I know. Now if I set the POI’s so they detect off route I get a lot more warnings that I don’t need from nearby cameras.
If you can’t then I suppose I can have the individual speed/camera categories set to warn on route, and then also install the all in one file and set this to detect off route, and then activate this when I don’t have a route planned and de-activate this when I do.
What do others do?
Thanks,
Ian. |

There is no simple way to mute the voice but keep the alerts - it's been on the features wishlists for ages, but not implemented by TomTom yet (if ever).
The sneaky way that has been worked out is to install a "silent" voice file and switch to that. There is one on Ray's site here - http://www.rayflanagan.co.uk/voice.zip
HOWEVER.....
The other day, I needed to remove a few more voices to fit something else on my card, and on my Go300 there are some "ghost" USA voices (Bonnie, Richard and Lori) that appear on the menu with a message saying they can be downloaded from the TomTom website.
If you've got those too, they can be selected like a real voice to give exactly what you want. |

Only if ytou have the "warn when on route ticked"
A lot of people leave it ticked sio they dont get speed camera warnings for 30mph cameras on paralell roads when there driving down a motoway at 70-100 :D |

My only issue with the "silent" voices are one day i hope to tie the go into the telephone muting on the radio.
It will proably get well annoying if the radio mutes every 2 seconds without any sound coming out |

You want the files that end with an extension of:
.bmp
.vif
.chk
Put these in the voices folder and the device will find the voice - Mike |

I think I sorted it...
It is not considered an english voice so it was hidden. |
