|
|
Could someone in the know let us know what the new update functions are for the newest version 5.12 of TTN5 for the Palm? Is it worth the new install? I have a functioning version of the program for version 5.0, and after much tweaking all works well now. The only real problem is on several trips where I did not follow the prepared route and deviated off that route slightly, the software froze necessitating a soft rebook and new map activation to get it going again. Anyone had this problem too? And why the awful need to activate the map again after a soft reset? The activation should be once only! Thanks for any input on this. |

Coincidentally, I have all the same questions as Mike - TomTom on my Tungsten T5 freezes if you confuse it (it particularly doesn't like carparks). Will 5.12 help? Will the latest Tungsten software help? (I plan to do both upgrades unless anyone can advise that's a bad idea).

Mike,
I'm running a Palm LifeDrive, and the 5.12 update has been a significant improvement. Previously I had to soft reset just to get the GPS connection working, now I get a connection within 30 seconds of start up, and a reminder every 30 seconds if my GPS is not in range or is switched off. Also, switching from TT and GPS to Internet over GPRS required a soft reset as well, but not since the upgrade to 5.12.
Other than that, I found v5.00 worked well enough, but have never had the problem of requiring to reactivate after a soft reset. There must be something screwed in the Palm's saved prefs setting, I'd have thought... |

Weelogic - are you using the app from the SD card or installed on your lifedrive? |

The app is running directly from the LD's hard drive. I don't have an SD card installed most of the time (I use Backupman and keep the card separate for safety). I have no problems at all with TT now (sorry to be at odds with most users) :-) |

How do you do that? Do you just copy all folders from the root of the card to the root of the device? (A Tungsten T5 has enough storage to run TT5, though not as much as a LifeDrive) |

Phil,
To be honest I don't know - the app was installed to the hard drive when I ran the update. I don't see how moving the folders etc can do any harm, so I would give it a try. From what I recall, when I ran the install the advice was to select install to card. As I had no card inserted the files went on the hard drive, from where they have run without problems. |

For reference, I have now done the software upgrade to the Tungsten T5, but not yet the one to TomTom, and it seems much happier in car parks now (I think these are a problem because it tries to rapidly recalculate routes).
Certainly it hasn't crashed yet, but I haven't given it much of a workout yet. I'll probably put the tomtom fix on too anyway, but thought it worth mentioning that just this one may be sufficient. |

I've been running ttn 5.12 since it was released as for me it now makes my Treo 650 stable & overcomes the problems with the losing map activation which I had with v5 amongst others.
Another thing that helped was doing a zero out reset to clear all the debris left from soft resets & hard resets. returned the treo to factory state. _________________ Skoda Columbus and for emergencies: TomTom + iPhone 4 & TomTom car kit |
