Posted: Fri Jun 10, 2005 3:08 pm Post subject: any idea what the tt5 bluetooth_support app does? |
|
|
I seem to have to soft reset every 6 or 7th time I exit ttn5 and think this related to the bt issues.
I've therefore deleted the tt bluetooth program via "delete programs" and it does seem to make any difference to the running of the program - I'm using a bt gps.
So any ideas as to what this does/did?

Hi, this utility is for turning bluetooth on/off automatically when you run/exit tomtom5. It probably does other nasty stuff too.
The reason you have to soft reset every 6th or 7th time is not because of bluetooth issue, but a Tomtom's problem with VGA devices. If you search under my username you can find a lot of references to this problem. VGA devices including the HX4700, asus a730, dell x50v, loox 720, all have this problem.
When you run tomtom for a longer period, the time it takes to exit the program completely will range from 30sec - 5min, proportional to the time you run the program.
Next time when you experience this freeze/halt, keep waiting and it will eventually release the device so you can use it again. However, this waiting time is unacceptable.
Just FYI, this problem originally started in TTN2004/4.4 but they have not fixed it. I don't even know how they tested these VGA devices as compatible. |

Cheers for the info
That makes some sense - I used it for a drive home from work today and it took a full 5 minutes to allow access to the device.
if this has been the case for many months Tomtom's quality testing is a total disgrace - as the various vga devices are shown as compatible this isn't acceptable.
As for the bt app it doesn't affect the start up / shut down for me but did stop the plus service connecting.

that's right, the BT Support app doesn't have any obvious effect. In fact you can completely ignore the GPS.CAB - in v5 the GPS driver seems to be integrated into the main program. _________________ Lutz

I have tried TT5 without this application and TT5 still turns the bluetooth on and off. The only way I have found to avoid this is let TT5 think it has a generic cable GPS on COM8. |
