Hi All
I have tonight tried to upgrade from TTN4 on an Ipaq 1710 bought as the Navigation pack to TTN5 upgrade purchased from Tom Tom and received today !
I was the person told by Tom Tom technical that only part of my order had been shipped ie the CDS not the SD card with my home country maps ( maybe like the SD card I got with the original package ) Anyway I have installed the tom tom 5 application disc apparantley with no problem !
When I try to install my GB maps everything is fine until the copy process starts, then my PC screen goes blank, My PC locks up and I have to reboot my computer.
I have tried installing the maps on the SD card via a card writer, same thig happens ! I have tried installing the GB maps to a folder on the PC, the same thing happens.
I have tried reformating my SD card and starting again with a clean install of TTN5 on both my Ipaq and Sd card, the same thing happens !
I have tried installing the France map without GB, but it wont even start to copy this, I assume this is as I have to put my home map on first !
At no stage do I get to having to put in my product code ,but I assume this should happen when the Ipaq boots succesfully the first time !
Can anyone advise me if
B) they have sucessfully installed TTN5 to the same machine as me Ipaq 1710 from the upgrade discs.
B) If the map 1 disc may be faulty
C) if theres any other way of getting these dam maps onto the Ipaq
I am beginning to wish I had never bothered with the upgrade. I now have TTN4 working again, but purchased the upgrade to get my France maps for the trips I make over there !
Beginning to look like a waste of money tho' perhaps I should of had a SD card with home maps on like robert at Tom Tom support said
Or maybe its just a coincidence !
Any help would be truely appreciated Guys
Thanks in advance |

I had loads of problems going from TT4 to TT5 - I also have a 1710.
I had to uninstal TT from the device (after moving all favourites to a POI file and backing up copies of all the OV2 and BMP files in the map folders.)
Then removed all TT folders from the SD card - including 2577 (very important unless you want your old TT4 to overwrite your TT5 installation every timne you insert the SD card).
I then installed TT5 on the device and using a card reader installed the GB map on the card. I then had to recreate a TomTom folder on the card so the Postcodes would work.
Finally I ran it all and had to go through the slow tortuous activation process that timed out about 8 times due ot TT's site being so slow.
I would say this looks like a problem with your computer - either the disk drive or a driver is not operating properly. |
