I took the plunge and bought it from eBay so I could use my Paypal account. They were very quick sending me the link to the download site with a username and password. I selected Navman and completed the 12Mb download. The postcodes are split into 10 regions; from 2.4Mb (Wales) to 6.1Mb (the Northeast).
Copying it to my Navman iCN 510 was slower than a slow thing with a broken leg trying to climb a steep hill covered with treacle. After 2 hours SmartST was still compiling the points and that was just the Scotland file (3.9Mb). Eventually after an overnight session it completed compiling, uploading to the device only took a couple of minutes after that.
So I looked up the postcode for my home address; it wasn't there. OK; I'll look up the office, it was missing too. A bit more investigation, loading the csv file into Notepad and so on and I discovered that the entire city of Aberdeen was missing. So were the industrial areas of Dyce and Portlethen; even the airport was missing. Bridge of Don was the closest town to Aberdeen I could spot. Other than Aberdeen and the surrounding area it seems to be complete, I looked up a few addresses in Edinburgh and Glasgow and there were all present.
For £2.49 I would say this is still good value and I would recommend it. However, Scotland's third largest city is missing and there may be other major gaps in the database. |

I should also add that poisoft did offer a refund as the database was missing Aberdeen. I decided to keep it I still intend to use their database and it is worth the money. |
