I have a 775T and you can choose to show elevation at bottom right of screen. I need to see this in Feet NOT Meters and can't find a way of changing this. My system settings are, as far as I know, set to the UK. I learnt the hard way when travelling in the USA that I should have factory reset to the default country but I am back now in the UK.
Any ideas please. |

Learn to multiply by 10 and divide by 3
or divide by 3 and add 10%
or what is even harder get to think in metres - eventually you will have to .
My statements are not as unsympathetic as you think as I have gone through this same process for the last 3 or 4 years with a 775t
Each time I drive into hilly/mountainous country I curse myself for not typing up a conversion table and blue tacking it next to the satnav in the car. My divide by 3 and add 10% seems to be the easiest method to me. |

Given the fact that satnav altitudes are pretty inaccurate for some reason or other, then a straightforward multiply by 3 seems to give a result that is within the accuracy variation of the sat nav unless you are talking serious altitudes. |

For reasons I won't go into now I do need to quickly know my height in Feet. My understanding of GPS is that the given heights are very accurate especially if using an external Antenna.
I am assuming that the answer to my question is the setting cannot be changed. |

That's wholly incorrect and an external antenna has no bearing on it.
GPS altitude is calculated from a theoretical model of the earth stored in the device. GPs locates you on the surface and the altitude is calculated using the model. It is not at all accurate. At best it is a very rough guess and can be 10 - 40m off.
You should never rely on GPS altitude for any important purpose. If you need to know accurate altitude, get a barometric altimeter. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thank you both for the information and very informative answers. I realise that I must re-evaluate very quickly my method of measuring height.
regards, sealion. |
