Or is the Tomtom software really flaky?
I went out just now and set the music to play over the FM. This worked fine yesterday but today, while the hissing stopped (indicating that there was a transmission over the correct frequency), the music still came out over the internal speaker. I checked the setting and it was correct.
A reset sorted that one out. But my RDS wouldn't reconnect (it had connected fine within about 10 seconds the first time).
Then, I tried to make a phone call. The device told me I was connected but refused to dial. OK, I re-connected manually and then that worked.
Then the screen started flashing at me. Slowly - about once every 5 seconds. I finished the call, cleared the route. Nothing. Still flashed. Until I removed the RDS cable. Then it was OK. Since the RDS hadn't reconnected, I wasn't that bothered.
But how do I get it all to work together and be consistent? What do I need to do so I don't go through all this hassle every day! It's a bit hard to take it back and get a refund when it works (sort of) - and when it does work, it is very good. Plus, I've just bought the next years maps (silly me).
I do have all the latest software loaded and I do have a backup (explorer, not TT Home) from when I first got the device.
Any assistance gratefully received.

You haven't said what TT you are using, but from the description sounds like a GO920 or GO930.
Yes, this sometimes happens!
I generally do a reset and the problem is fixed. Not sure why it happens. _________________ Steveee

It's a Go730T.
It might "sometimes happen", but I am disappointed with the s/w quality.

I have had my TT 520 for nearly a year. It worked just dandy out of the box, RDS worked ok, all phone functions worked as stated and map redraw and route planning worked super fast and smooth. I purchased a TT having used an old Garmin as TT were market leaders and must have a better product!!!!!!
Now after a number of updates it awful. It no longer does anything well and some things like hands free calling are unusable. In fact its so bad I constantly run my device at least one software release behind the current. At one time I was using navcore software released for another device just so I could continue to use a functioning device. Tomtom continue to refuse to acknowledge any bugs or problems so you will be left in the dark for months until the next Navcore (software) release and then its wait until those more trusting than you download it and find all the new bugs.
Never just download the latest Navcore release if TTHome offers it. Read this tomtom forum and see what bugs have been found and decide if you can live with them.
I reported the screen redraw bug with RDS days after the navcore release TT reply, I did the upgrade wrong! Even though this is an automatic function. After more emails even TT suggest I run the previous navcore release to solve the “its only you suffering” bug.
One good thing is there is always someone on this forum who can help if things go very wrong and usually this forum finds a solution to the many bugs TT introduce months before TT themselves. _________________ TT520 running App 8.351 & map UK&I v845.26345

To add my tuppence worth to what is clearly a TT 'feature'. My 730T is now all but useless following the latest 'updates'. The hands free phone connection mostly doesn't, and even when it does the caller can't hear me, even if i can hear them.
On navigation the route instructions regularly go ga ga so much that they either add miles to the journey or try to take me where I cannot go!
I'm sure its been said many times on here, but I'll say it again - Garmin is the next stop, and as a business user, the change will come v.soon. TT have proved to me their incompetence and lack of customer care. Never again............. |

I don't seem to have all the issues you have (yet?) so I think I will persevere for a while.
I have raised a couple of questions with TT support. Let's see what they come back with !!!

Unfortunately the standard response from TT support is Quote: | It could sometimes happen that a minor file on your TomTom becomes corrupt and this could lead your TomTom to function incorrectly. | They then normally go on to get you to backup your device, erase and then rebuild it!
For the last 2 faults I have reported, this has been the TT Support response.
The last one I reported (screen redrawing every 15secs) they tried this. They then tried to blame the map, even though I reinstalled the map as as a result of their fix!
Good luck, but the problems you have reported are regularly raised on this forum. I certainly encountered them this time last year when I 1st got my GO920. I concluded that this was an inadequate memory problem. I increased available memory by deleting the North America maps. I can always reload them if I take a trip to the USA. This certainly reduced the BT/phone problems. However later Navcore problems introduced further problems. I haev had this GO replaced twice by the vendor.... _________________ Steveee

And my 920 has been to Holland for them to experience the problems first hand.
Despite my requests for them to test in 'real life' situations, they returned it to me as No Fault Found. Subsequent conversations have revealed that they didn't go out on the road anda ctually try and use the device, they connect to a test rig in the lab. Guess what, under those circumstances it is fine.
I am currently negotiating a suitable resolution with TT as IMHO as they currently stand the x20 and x30 range are not fit for purpose and not of satisfactory quality so according to The Sale of Goods Act after an attempt at a repair you are due a replacement device or a partial refund. |
