What is your take on this:
3 months ago I purchased a factory refurbished TomTom 910 from TotalPDA.
To TomTom support AGAIN.

3 months ago I purchased a factory refurbished TomTom 910 from TotalPDA, the maps were 2 years out of date ver:660.1219. I was told by yourselves that the units were refurbished as new, but not the maps. I could buy new maps for it from TomTom. Yet on the purchase of a refurbished TomTom 720 this week for my daughter, I was then able to update her unit to the latest maps. So again I ask you, the maps CAN be updated free of charge as I did with the 720, so please in good faith give me the chance to update my 3 month old 910 as I could not when it was purchased. Mike Marsh.
TomTom just keep telling me you cannot get free map updates for refurbished units. (Not true) Can you at PGPS World help with this? Regards. |

The latest map guarantee was introduced with the x20 and One Third Edition along with more recent XL models, the x10 family of units (which your 910 fits in to) was never supplied with such an offer - I very much doubt TomTom would apply newer conditions to older devices preceding the point at which they introduced the map guarantee scheme - Mike |

Thanks for the reply Mike, but surely a older unit would be more in need of a newer map, Regards, Mike. |

Yes of course...
No-one is saying you shouldn't update the maps, but the simple fact is that the Latest Map Guarantee was only introduced (as a selling point/ marketing gimmick (and a very good one)) with the units listed by Mike above. IT was NEVER included with the 910 even when bought new, so why should they add it to a cheap refurbished unit now?
If you bought a car last year, and then this year they decide to give away a free holiday with every new car, do you think you would be entitled to the holiday?
TomTom have recently introduced a Map Subscription scheme where you can get 4 updates to your map for less than the price of ONE previously.
That seems a very reasonable deal to me.... |

Thanks Andy, I will check that out, looks like the only way to go now.
Would I be able to update all the maps on the 910, Western Europe and USA and Canada, Regards, Mike. |

You could certainly update the Western Europe and North American maps, but each one will cost you money as they are treated as separate products, if you are planning a trip to the USA then it might be worth considering the American maps, otherwise just update the European maps and save some cash - Mike |
