|
|
I’ve tried to update my Mio C710 using the mio update tool but it stops before it can do it, I’ve tried a restore from the disc then tried to update again but it just does the same, I’ve turned my firewall off and tried again but still the same.
The Mio won’t even start up now it just comes up with an error loading some file.
The update tool did say it was updating to Miomap v3.3 which seems a new one on me. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/iain.mack/MIO.update.v3.3.jpg here is a screen grab of the update tool
Thanks Iain |

Ok if anyone is interested or has the same problem here is what you need to do.
Start the update it will prolly fail like my one did.
Explore your mio using Bluetooth and you will see the miomap folder,
open that and the next one then you will have to create a folder called gfx then open that one and create 2 folders one called brand_small and one called brand_big.
this is what i done and everything is fine now.
For some reason the updater couldn’t make the folders.
Now my mio shows miomap v3.3, I have no idea what is new in this one.
I hope this helps someone. |

Well TMC seems to have stopped working for one :-(
*None* of the 3.2 skins work. 3.3 is similar to IGO 6 and they have changed the data.zip file layouts. There seem to be only a couple that work and they have problems.
Load of new voices. Some of the POIs show up with the company icon rather than the default one for that class - Petrol stations for example - I was poking around the German map and spotted the blue Aral square with Aral in white.
The options screen pop up from the bottom left Menu button does not take over the whole screen.
That's all I found in a couple of hours.
I *wish* Mio would just fix that damn updater to resume on error. I have a 5.5Meg ADSL and it took many *hours* to run. I lost count of the number of times I told it to start again. It also tells porkies. It often says nothing to download Xmeg to upload to device and then happily goes off and downloads something that was sitting in the cache. Run it again and it does it again. It also *uploads* everything it thought it had to upload from the first attempt every retry :-(
You can't get the files using something that *can* cope with resuming because they are encrypted in some way that the uploader decodes. Interestingly the files are the exact same length before and after. I know they come down encrypted because I ran a packet sniffer on the download and they are the same as fetched by wget. I also noticed that the .dat file in the uploader directory is actually an executable - but says it is for a different OS. What I might try next time is suck the lot using wget, serve them up locally on my apache server and fix the ini file to point at that. _________________ Mio C710 on MioMap 3.3 |

Please save me the aggro of trying Mio updater unless it's neccessary.
Firstly, can you confirm that the latest MIO 'update' upgrades the 3.2 software to 3.2.
Secondly, what are the dates of the maps included with the update.
Thirdly, do 8 character post codes work?
When I updated my 710 to 3.2 March?/April 07's s/w issue. I too lost TMC. so i reverted to the Sept 06 version. I am led to believe that they swapped from TrafficMaste to the ITSIS? TMC system (It might be the other way round), which, although my current (Sep 06 version) works intermittently, the March/April? version did not work at all in my location. |

I take you meant 3.2 to 3.3? Yes it does. Most maps are 26/09/06.
Denmark is 7/11/06
Greece 20/03/07
Ireland 16/08/07

I was led to believe that v3.3 will only work on the newer widescreen units and that the x10 series will not upgrade from v3.2 to v3.3
However, the appears to have been several versions of v3.2
Apparently, according to Mio, the update has temporarily been removed from the server due to server problems _________________ Andy

Well mine updated :-)
Looking into data.zip we have 240_320 320_240 directories. Which I assume are landscape and portrait for the same size screen. The wide screen ones are four hundred something by three hundred something. Or I may be talking rubbish. _________________ Mio C710 on MioMap 3.3 |

well it looks like my mio is totally screwed now. it is stuck on the france map, there is no 7 digit postcode search, it seems to come up with some io error and just restarts on a regular basis.
So all in all dont update if your running 3.2 and it`s working fine leave it... |

I don't think the 3.3 update was meant for the C510 and C710 devices. I bet there's been some sort of mistake made at Mitac in terms of putting incorrect software on the server. |

I’m back with 3.1 and the maps that came on the DVD now.
Miomap 3.3 doesn’t seem to be on the server now it just tells me there isn’t an upgrade for 3.1 now.
Oh well that was a bit of fun |

There server is up again, This time i tried to just update the maps and voices and not the software.
It seems to be working ok so far but it has lost the 7 digit post code search, I think i'll be going back to the maps on my dvd unless someone knows how to get the post codes working. |
