|
|
Hi all, a friend of mine has just bought the above unit from Costco. I advised him to back everything up first before he messes around with it
I've unhidden all the files etc., and tried to drag and drop the entire contents of the unit onto a folder on his PC. However, it gets to the stage where it gives an error warning about not being able to copy the file 'gwes'. I've Googled, and it seems that it's a Microsoft thingy.
Is there any way of getting around this, or another method of backing up?
Many thanks,

Well, you can back up using the Back-Up feature in SmartST 2006 Desktop but, it's not the same as what you are trying to do. Still worth doing, though _________________ Gee-Pee

Not sure if N20 uses Smart Desktop to sync but if it does you'll find a backup option on there. It'll back up the main unit files but i've noticed it'll ignore any custom poi's. _________________ Dom

Thanks for the prompt responses chaps. If the Smart Desktop came on the install CD, I'll try that. I know Active Sync comes on when he connects the unit, but I'll have to see if that has a backup option.

You should have four CDs with the N20 pack. Disc 1; installation installer - SmartST 2006 SE; Disc 2 European Basemap & 8 countries street level maps incl. UK; Discs 3 & 4 the rest of the european street level mapping.
You will need the SmartST Desktop if you want to do anything with the software on the N20 including installing POIs, updating and downloading; registering etc.. Make sure it is installed. _________________ Gee-Pee

gwes.exe and many other files in the \Windows folder of the device are "in ROM" files. You can't normally copy them on your PC. |
